Not the Oxford League, I might add, as we don't have an handicap system for the Summer. Indeed, it was the Wallingford league.

Memories are indeed funny. I have a memory of an Oxford Open and much to mine and everyone's surprise I made it through a couple of rounds. It was a particular surprise to Milko who - on discovering me at the table as his next opponent in the last 16 or even last 8 (not sure) - said, "Lorin, what are you doing here?" Oh, how we love to stroll down amnesia lane!! Who won ?, I can't remember. ::)

Well, I was called sick for liking Billie Piper right from the start. Because I Wanted To. ;D Bought all her CDs, albums, etc. I admit it put me off a bit when she married Chris Evans and became a bit of an alchie. But now look at her- she's a celebrated actress.
Somehow I suspect Whine-house is heading down a different path. Some people are just unable to handle fame, and I do feel a bit sorry for her.

Well, I remember you saying you liked her Q and I actually bought her album and it's quite good.
But I can only take so much of this rebel angst stuff and I find her a bit one-dimensional now.
Rather like Eminem, good novelty value when he first came out, but now he just (really) bugs me.

and back on topic... Pubs in Cornwall WITHOUT a bar billiards table. So that's all of them then? Current bugbear is the Daily Express. Don't get me wrong, but my in-laws reliably inform me that little Maddie Mcann has been on the front page every day since she went missing. Sometimes she shares the honour with Princess Di. THis, mind, REGARDLESS of what else has happened in this country or any other. Other things have happened; young kids have been murdered, flood, desolation etc etc, but no. There she is every day. Apart from that, any paper that honestly believes that Rupert Bear still has anything pertinent to say in the 21st century is clearly living up its own $rse.

What really did bug me was when I checked up on the 2002 list of Top Britains as voted for to the BBC (in an attempt to finalise Jock's Quiz).
Now I find Frank Spencer funny, and he did some good work in musicals as well, but Michael Crawford 17th in the all-time list, higher than Queen Victoria and Paul McCartney ?
And also appearing in the Top 100 : Boy George and Johnny Rotten. Don't make me laugh !

With Bar Billiards1. ODD BALLS - Tournament tables with odd (dull) balls that react much differently when used with shiny new ones. I noticed three tables last Sunday that had them, table 8 had 3, table 7 had 1 & table 4 (Final table) had 2. Two of them (7 & 4) looked easy as long as you left the dull balls in the tray. ??? 2. LOST CUPS - Northants Cup & now the Ladies All England County Cup has gone missing, somewhere in Sussex. :o 3. MOANERS - People that complain to Tournament Directors (Nigel), when they are doing a damn good job. :-/ 4. COLD VENUES - I was B..... cold marking on table 8 last Sunday. ??? 5. YOUNG UPSTARTS - Youngsters showing the Old Masters how to play the game. ;D 6. KT - For winning every tournament going. ;) ::) ;D 7. LOST FORM - Struggling to get my old form of yesteryear back & taking it out on my cue, by taking nearly an inch off it. :( :'( :o 8. ME - Have I got nothing better to do than sit on here all day. :-X Keith :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Interesting point about the odd balls: Dave Hampton pointed out the "matt finish" red ball at the Sussex Open. It is visibly smaller than usual. And another set does indeed have an odd white, slightly heavier than the other balls, which makes the break drop easier. Vernon Sparkes noticed it in the Surrey Champs, and used it to good effect against me and then told me about it afterwards. >:(

Bump ! I'm resurrecting this old thread as the new members might not realise that we are able to indulge in a bit of light-hearted fun on the Forum. Come to think of it, there has not been too much of that recently. So use this thread to give vent to your feelings over anything that bugs you - which you feel you may want to share with others for a bit of entertainment. I have two new ones. 1. I have a black cat just like the one in my avatar, and the little b*st*rd is always jumping on my computer chair at every opportunity, 'cos it's next to a radiator. So that bugs me - I get up to make a cuppa, and immediately my back's turned, he's "logged on". 2. I like a nice long soak on a Sunday morning, it's a chance to contemplate and turn things over in the mind (like when can I afford to retire ?) But it's very difficult to collect your thoughts when someone is rattling pots and pans downstairs in the kitchen. This meant I had to extend my tenure by an equivalent 20 mins, and by the time I got out of the bath I was all wrinkled. :o I shall henceforward refer to margo as "the percussionist".

Two nights ago the local chavs had it away with my 'designer' tyre valve dustcaps. >:( Okay, they're only a fiver a set, but it's the fourth lot I've had nicked. And that really bugs me.
