We didn't mean it as an April Fool, honest ! ::) But your birthday shows up on your profile as Apr 1st..............apparently it can't be altered without deleting the account and starting again.
So I just hope we can remember your real birthday when the time comes. :-/

You can delete the account and re-enter it and it will pick up the old posts etc.
A request can also be put on Proboards support by one of the directors if required.

My decision to call off the Mixed Pairs has been met by a mix of opinion.
My decision was based on three conversations over the telephone
First of all I returned a call from KT (AEBBA Assistant Secretary) and talked over the viability of the competition going ahead, we were both in agreement to cancel the weekend. I then made a call to Phil Hawkins (AEBBA Chairman) and put our case to him of which he was in total agreement with us. My third call was to Nobby (Club Steward) to tell him of the discussions that I have had to cancel the competition, Although disappointed he was sure we had made the right decision, cost to the club at this stage of the year would have been detrimental
I now have to put things right. So I have made some inquiries into moving the competition to Surrey in the hope of better support for this competition

I don't think that ANY AEBBA Tournaments should be moved from the All England H/Q, as it makes no sense when the tables are stored there already!

Keith That was indeed the reason why staging the Mixed Pairs anywhere other than in Reading this year (2011) isn't viable. But looking at the bigger picture (as urged by K.T.), we already have a British Open Pairs held at Bournemouth, and a British Isles Open Ladies Singles held at Horley/Redhill. We have had much discussion here on the absence of a British National Singles, so if ever the National Mixed Doubles were moved away - as now seems practical for 2012 and beyond - the vacant slot on the calendar could be occupied by this proposed new competition (a National Singles). :-/

Hi Dave May I ask about what the position is about our £200 table investment made from the Oxford Bar Billiards Association. Is it nearly pay back time?
Cheers Pete

We are still on track to reach this target, despite a couple of huge bills this year from the van breaking down. Regards Mark

I have received the County fees from SURREY for 2011 and 2012
I have said in another post that I would keep a tight rein on these fees as they seem to take a long time to be paid.
I would hope that other Counties would now follow suit. So please remind your Treasurers to send then in ASAP

Hi all,
Just to put things straight, I hope no one has been offended by the comments that have been posted on here, I can 100% guarantee I have not posted anything on here about anybody, someone with a sick head has been on here and posted some awful comments, unfortunately not even I know myself what they are! I can say that whoever you are watch your back because if I find out who you are god only knows what I will do!!!. I will get to the bottom of this and I will say sorry now to whoever has been affected, I don`t know who as this is news to me this morning. If anyone can help me find out who this horrible sick person is I would be grateful. I feel deeply saddened by this and sick inside to think that someone is so nasty within the bar billiard family!

The Posts were not made from Champs phone as he exhibits a Guernsey IP address and the posts came from a BT IP address which I an investigating. There was a further breach of security later that evening but no further posts were made. Didn't have a lot of time to dig on this yesterday but will be looking closer today. I have advised Champs to change his passwords. Sav.

It is also worth noting of course that auto-log on (which I and presumably others use) does allow ANYONE access to your account if you leave your phone unattended (and especially if you have some dodgy mates.. ) Tony

Hi All
I have recently been reevaluating my workload, as this has increased over the past year by some 90%
I have just relinquished my role as secretary of the Reading & District Thursday Bar Billiards League, this will help a little next year
I have been the AEBBA secretary for around 10 years
I have been the AEBBA Tournament Director for around 4-5 years
I have been delivering and collecting bar billiard tables again for around 4-5 years
Now I have reevaluated my commitment to the AEBBA
I have been left feeling somewhat embarrassed and deflated by YOUR lack of support for tomorrows event
I have had to contact the Arborfield British Legion to explain the reduced numbers for the 'over 50s'. An embarrassment to say the least.
I have given so much of my time to deliver and collect the Tournament tables to and from YOUR events
I am rewarded for this by YOUR zero or minimal support for the 'Individual' competitions held by the association
I have driven Thousands of miles to help you to put on YOUR local events
I am rewarded for this by YOUR zero or minimal support for the 'Individual' competitions held by the association
I have spent Hundreds of hours away from my wife and children to help YOU to put on YOUR local events
I am rewarded for this by YOUR zero or minimal support for the 'Individual' competitions held by the association
I have spent countless hours involved in the upkeep of the tournament tables so that they are at their best when at YOUR local events
ALL THAT FOR WHAT!!
Zero support for the 'Mixed Pairs' leading to cancellation of the tournament
Minimal support for the 'Alternative Rules' and 'Over 50s'
I have tried over the past few years to move some of the competitions to different dates because YOU said "there are to many events at the end of the year". So why did you not enter these competitions.
I have tried to use different venues because YOU said " I don't like travelling to Didcot because it's too far". so why didn't you enter those competitions.
I have even tried to separate some of the tournaments because YOU said " the day's are too long". so why did have you shunned these competitions.
It seems as though it makes no difference what I do.
As I mentioned earlier, I have reevaluated my commitment to the AEBBA, or more to the point my commitment to YOUR events
As of TODAY, I will no longer deliver the tournament tables to YOUR events
As of 4th DECEMBER 2017 I will no longer be involved in the set-up or running of the All England Tournaments (The embarrassment is too heavy a burden)
As of 2nd DECEMBER 2018 i will no longer be the secretary of the AEBBA, I think 10 years is long enough, the Association needs new blood for the future
The AEBBA will need to readjust somewhat for next year, delivery drivers are of utmost importance
The AEBBA must contact Martin Pellett to arrange collection of the tables from Reading next weekend
I have written this with so many regrets, so much disappointment, so much sadness
MY support for YOUR events is now level with YOUR support for MY events

You are appreciated dave and no doubt you will be missed making these events happen. It may be too little too late but thank you so much for all the work you have put in all these years, for all the time away from your family you have sacrificed to make these events happen for us to enjoy. I have tried to in every event thank the organisers before i leave to know it is appreciated. Sorry it has come to this

This is news, I have always tried to go out of my way to thank certain people who have always helped us so much with our four pin opens as I am aware that without their help and dedication we would of truley struggled in the past. I guess this is just another example of most of us sticking our heads in the sand and taking others for granted and expecting everything to be done for us

Dave this is a day but not totally unexpected, you have indeed kept the game going by all the running about you have done, delivering tables, collecting them meaning early starts and late finishes and a weekend totally disrupted. You certainly have given a lot up in that support and I for one appreciate what you have done and wish you all the best in the future. The situation this year with dropping numbers certainly is worrying, and needs addressing, for some of us being well in the south it is awkward to help with delivering the tables, I have in Sussex when I am running competitions have always tried to have help on hand at the venue, but that is only a little compared to all the miles you travel and the time you spend away from your family. Personally I hope I have always showed appreciation to those who run events and to those who spend time and effort to ensure we all have tables there and set up to the best they can beHopefully we will still see you at the Opens, and that a replacement for your role can be found ( big boots to fill ).

This is indeed a sad day for bar billiards.
Unfortunately it is human nature, when someone willingly shoulders a burden, to allow them to continue to do so.
With a dwindling in entry numbers, it is understandable that Dave feels unappreciated.
Yes, a few good souls help with unloading, setting up and taking down at the destinations, but often Dave is left to make the journey alone.
I can recall one day a few years back when Dave was caught in a heavy snowfall when driving back from the Sussex Coast with the van load. This was before the A23 road improvements had been made and negotiating Handcross Hill was a nightmare (the reason my team switched leagues for 4 years). I can only guess how scary it must have been having to stop by the side of the road on a notorious stretch where lorries were known to have slipped back down the hill sideways in treacherous conditions.
It will probably need more than one person to share the workload/responsibilities left by Dave.
