I thought it a good idea to have a separate board to discuss this important topic. That way the AEBBASec's Corner will not become cluttered. It may also save time and mistakes when the committee meet. It will allow us to ascertain whether there is the will and commitment to make the project worthwhile or whether we meekly let our national competitions disappear into obscurity.
Remember, nothing has been decided yet, the overseeing committee have not yet met. Thus what follows is conjecture, but will give you an idea of the costs and problems involved
The committee comprises of Sav, Dave Alder, Brian Daniels, Phil Hawkins, Eric Hill & Mark Trafford.
Eight tables plus the van are on offer to AEBBA only for £10k.
There are just over 100 individual table payments for hire during the year.
Hirers will probably be responsible for collecting them at their own cost, unless a panel of volunteer drivers from the Thames Valley can be found. Suitable 'Any Driver' insurance for the van needs to be costed.
Costs are not yet budgetted for 2010 but we would need to charge £40 per table just to cover minimum repayment costs and running costs over the intended repayment period of three years assuming van reliability.
After that hire costs could be reduced as we will not have loans to repay. A replacement fund for the van will need to be accumulated.
A backup strategy in case of van breakdown / accident will need to be decided.
Loading / unloading at Reading needs to be addressed, though the tables can be left on the van at busy periods, possibly with a dehumidifier.
This is a very simplistic view and much needs to be discussed. It will be a good grounding for identifying topics the committee need to consider. I will lock this thread and use it as a summary of problems identified.
However, first and most important, we need sponsors!!
