Hi,
Could anyone let me know if they are aware of a likely team that requires an aditional player for your next winter league season?
As I live in Lincs it would be better if it was vaguely close to that side of Cambs but not essential.
Thanks for your consideration.

I shall forward you to Keith, I now that the Nelsons Head are looking! Better that the Nelsons Head was looking rather than the other end. Have you not finished that parachute course you were taking? You could drop in on us in Eynsham! Nice to have you back RC

My home venue is 60 miles each way, so I would stick to Cambs if you want to keep your sense of humour.

Hi,
Pete is right wherever you go there will be a fair bit of travelling involved. We do not have any Cambs. teams in the north of the county so the nearest to Lincs would be in St Ives and that is some round trip on a Monday. As Johnny indicated it would be the Nelson's Head in St. Ives, so let me know how that would be for you??
Its a pity that when everyone was striving for ranking points, highest break trophies and do they love me awards Lincolnshire, like Wiltshire, South Yorkshire, Avon, Somerset and Hertfordshire, were all left to drift away without much thought.......... but that is another debate we all refused to have!!

Keith Don't think Lincs have ever had b-b's, Keith, although Leicestershire might have appeared on your list. I think it's that reformedcharacter (Lorin ?) has recently moved to Lincs and is trying to find the nearest possible locality where the game is still played. Avon was indeed a great loss. I travelled over to Jersey once (on the boat) with the lads from Portishead and they were a great bunch of characters.

Hi Keith,
I can do St Ives and would like to commit. Do you know who I should/could speak to? Could you make an introduction? Could you also give me details of what level they play i.e. they are in the top or bottom division etc?

The Nelsons head are in the Top division, however all leagues play eachother still.
You need to speak to Earle Dugan, or ask Ian Coleman to refer you to the landlord there, he is going this saturday!

Ian - is it possible you can help?

You and Earle will get on fine RC. If he runs the show there, they will suit your obvious enthusism. In fact, just realised how alike you are, two peas in a pod. Just mention my name, and stand well back. County Championships next year, even AE Singles??? Wow, the Cambridge border is the limit!

Here in Cambridgeshire, your a celebrity Pete ::) ;)
Earle is a great paerson, I can't see any trouble there. It doesn't matter which division your in here, because every team plays eachother (includes Division 1 versus Division 2 teams)!
Why not pop down yourself and talk to landlord, I think he is part of the team too!

OK Thanks. Ian - is it possible you can help? I'll see if Earle's in there on saturday. Your best bet would be Northants in distance wise, and pete i'd reckon that the nelsons head would be a lot nearer to you than eynsham is ???

Never ever set foot in Eynsham actually, but still rather play there than anywhere else, thanks. Go for it RC, better there than "anywhere"

Everyone wants to play for the Nelsons Head since my recommendation You are so wise, even beyond your obvious advancing years. Where did I put that paintbrush?

Don't think Lincs have ever had b-b's, Keith. I disagree with Clive (for a change). Unless I am finally losing my marbles, Bourne had a league for a few years and entered All-England events. They also had a few good players. I am fairly sure (not had a chance to look it up due to the state of my desk.....due to the slow decorating process) but John Twell reached the final of the AE Indiv one year and should definitely have been picked for an early England match. It would have been a tremendous fillip for their league if he had been chosen, and it may just have changed bar billiards history. So I agree with blobby.

I take it that South Yorkshire no longer exists? If my memory serves me correct was it run by a 'mate' of yours Pete? I can't recall his name but he was a 'character' of sorts :D

So - to get back on track. I'll go to the pub and speak to thel landlord. Could anyone give me a clue as to when your winter league starts and when registrations need to be in?
I'm against the clock because, firstly, it may not be the first pub I go to that allows me into their team - people tend not to like me the first time they meet me!! And secondly, the spouse approval sheet that I have had to get signed has an expiry date if I do not show commitment!!! :)

Retrospective quote of Pete Farrelly (blame my granddaughters this time as they wanted one last go on Gunslinger in between)
"I disagree with Clive (for a change). Unless I am finally losing my marbles, Bourne had a league for a few years and entered All-England events."
I stand corrected. Bear in mind that my experience at county level is only recent (three years at most) - although I have a hazy knowledge of the late 70's and early 80's when I was a wannabee, there to give moral support to John Slee and/or Tony Franks. Then for twenty years I was a nevergonnabee. Eventually I suppose I'll metamorphose into an old hasbeen. ::)

Any later then its up to the committee. Don't worry about pissing off anybody, just get down there and get signed up! If the worst case scenario happens then I could suggest the White Swan :D But if your better then me, then don't ;) First just see what the Nelsons Head says first! ;)

I have met you many, many times and STILL don't like you ;D 2. Don't talk about commitment to your "spouse" Have courage now............take her along

Pete,
May I say - two very good points from you in return. Well done!!
I will address them in reverse order if I may.
Point about the spouse & commitment - strangely she still feels that a night away from me is not a good thing. I appreciate that this state of mind will be a concern to some of you and just difficult to emapthise with for the majority of you.
Secondly - You have met me many times, and, true, you still do not like me but I understand the reason why. It is due to the fact that every time you have met me it has been a 'first meeting'. This is why we still have this difficulty. Effectively - we are caught in a 'Groundhog Day' scenario.
I'll try to think of a plan to move our relationship forward - (I know that is really what you are asking!! ;) ;))
