At risk of being guilty of multiple posting can I just say thanks for everyones help on this topic. I have been into the Nelsons Head today and had a wee word with the landlord.
He said that they were trying to get a second team but this was not going to happen through lack of interest. In his first team there are already eight players (six of whom are regular, committed players) so it is unlikely there will be a spot for me but he will let me know.
Thanks again for your help.

Here you are, OnParole, a table in your own county of Lincs : cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320027618666&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:UK:1All you need to do is : 1. Win the auction and pay for it. 2. Find a nice pub in Lincs (Boston ?) with room for a table. 3. Come to an arrangement with the Landlord that he rents your table for free but on a profit sharing basis. 4. Clear it all with the taxman. 5. Collect the table with the landlord helping and install it in the pub. 6. Tart the table up as best you can (a rip here and there shouldn't matter) 7. Start your own team up, from friends and family to begin with if necessary. 8. Register the Lincolnshire Bar Billiards Association. 9. Enter the county for next years National competition. 10. Organise a Holland Open (Boston is in Holland dist. of Lincs?) 11. Win the World Championship representing Holland. (Ray Barneveld achiieved it at Darts). Sounds simple really, doesn't it ?

I am sure Lorin will see this as a great idea, and will let you know as each stage is achieved.

I guess the closest one would be the White Swan B Team, if you prove yourself you could be in the first team, there however is 11 players, and you only need 5, so prove yourself ;)
If not there, the White Horse is close to the Swan (Swavesey) however they don't take Bar Billiards too seriosly ::) HOwever you should be first team material (if not I shall shoot myself :D)!
They are the only pubs within your distance, so it's now your turn to pick one!

Lorin has proved himself over many years.
You are not getting very close, darling, as you are obviously seen as a threat. If I were you, LC, I would get a list of Cambridge teams and do the tour over one weekend. You still may not get any joy, but you would have one hell of a time!
Come on, give him a go.................... Stop being so insular.................

I am most certainly not misleading him, I am simply giving him possible vacencies also the pubs closest to him. There are only 10 teams in the winter!

Having read through the thread again, I don't see anybody suggesting that you are misleading anyone, Johnny. (You may be listening to too many posts having a go at me, rather than just read what I said myself :-*). I was purely suggesting Lorin takes a pub crawl and find a team whe would appreciate his commitment. Perhaps I am wrong, but I don't think distance is a problem. If the lovely :-* Lorin is prepared to travel to Cambridgeshire, whether he goes to one side of the area or the other is probably not an issue, he just wants to play, and would be an asset to ANY team.
And, I think Hitler is not such a good idea for you!! ;)

I am also going to try the Northants league even though it is further away.
Thanks.

Out of interest that table is a 'Narrow Sams', no good to man nor bar billiard player.

It gets worse..............
The table has just been pulled from eBay as the vendor was prompted to confirm that the slate was sound, re-checked it, and found it to have a dirty great crack right down the middle.
So no good to man or beast.
It's a good job that we have the "table police" - headed of course by DCI Saville ! ;D ;D ;D
