For the second successive week the Warren Club were involved in a stonking game with them coming from 2-0 down to draw 2 and a half each at the Three Horseshoes.
In the first skipper Higgins surprised his team by sacrificing Nick Brown at the altar of Kevin Tunstall. Nick was soon off, Kevin made 10 grand - 1-0 to the Horseshoes.
In the second Neil tried to get it back, but Mal Spier ran out a fairly comfortable winner.
I was third against Kevin Hall, but was again off early. Not so at my second bite, however, and 5000+ sealed it.
Fourth was Jason Clough v Gary Ridley. Again Jason made little of the break and Gary ran out a comfortable winner.
So, down to the decider between Tony Burgess and Stewie Mepham. Again Tone was soon off and after a bit of jousting Stuart got the break. What happened next reinforces how luck can play a big part in BB. Stuart was going well (4000+) when he left one behind the right 30. Whereas in the decider the previous week Phil Oakley luckily held a winning break in this position (albeit on the other side of the table) this time Stuart's attempt missed and Tony was back from the dead. Not only that but he was 900-200 ahead with 5 minutes left. From here Stuart was gradually reducing the deficit, Tony could hardly pot a ball, but was loading the table and when the bar dropped Stuart was just ahead. By the time the last two balls were left Stuart was 30 ahead and there was an obvious 20-10 shot on. (Obvious to us watching anyway!) Under pressure Tone saw it, went for it and got it.
So that's 2 years on the trot that the Warren Club probably does not have to worry about goal difference!

Stadium 3 - 2 Windmill A
1. Alan Messer opened with 13k v Steve Mariner, 0-1
2. Grant Tully's break of 11k v Edge Butler equalised for the home side, 1-1
3. Charlie Cooper was off cheaply, Ian Lelliott made a substantial break at first attempt, and returned to mop up, 2-1
4. Geoff Jukes pegged an opening 4 or 5k, giving the break back to Micky Pope in the process. He was unable to take advantage, however, and after some top of table exchanges Geoff got the break back and made 5k, which proved sufficient. 3-1
5. Gina Sherratt pegged an opening 5k, but Martin Smith did not capitalise, and Gina made another similar break, which she kept on this occasion, 3-2
This was the first Worthing league match on the recently re-covered Stadium table. Your correspondent is assured by the players that it is not nearly as quick as it used to be, and rather more forgiving than before.

Windmill B 1 - 4 Dolphin B
A good win for the Dolphin on that fun, fun, fun table. Only Barry and his opponent had any real success.

Henty Arms 5 - 0 Marine View
The highlight of the match was a rare venture against the break for Jim MacRobert who beat Mark Senior. Good wins for Ken Williams and Garry Iles. Also good wins for Tony Williams and Anna Iles who both scored well above their respective averages.
