Eynsham A v Reading A Wednesday 5th March at the Corner House. Cracking first round match last night left Eynsham 3-2 ahead and just over 8,000 up on aggregate. Ray Sturgess sealed the 1st in one go against Keith Lewendon. Bernie McCluskey levelled in similar fashion against Farrelly who missed an opportunity to bolster his team's aggregate, and could prove decisive. Paul Sainsbury only opened with about 6k (from memory) against Steve Huntley but was soon back at the table to take Reading 2-1 ahead. Micky Jones played it out for 17k to make it 2-2 against skipper Tony Walsh and then Mark Trafford played a captain's innings to be the first to win against the break, coming on after Geoff Pitt struggled at the start. Geoff made a spirited 5k at the end to keep the aggregate lead down to about 8,000. Return (somewhere in Reading) on Sat March 29th. Nicely poised!

Saturday 29th March at CWMC
Reading A 4 - 1 Eynsham. Reading win 6 - 4.
Haven't got the scores but Ray needed to win the last leg by 25k+ to win on aggregate, something even his "speedy" pairs partner wouldn't have managed!
Feel a bit sorry for Milhouse, his first one up dangles on the lip, when Bernie gets to the table it drops and Bernie finishes the table off for 18.5k - definitely the turning point of the match.
Played in a really good spirit throughout, a pleasure to play in.

Oxford A 3 Oxford C 2 Alan Oliver 4,410 Terry Green 4,730 Steven Sheard 12,410 Andy Webb 620 Kevin Godfrey 8,630 Eddie Tebby 2,540 Simon Ellam 5,510 Billy Hill 4,320 Keith Sheard 3,410 Chris Webb 6,450
Agg, 34,370 - 18,660 Oxford A with a lead of 15,710
In a tense first game, Alan needed 470 at the bar, but missed when trying to catch Terry's score.
The young maestro showed his class again, with a fine break of 9,000+ to beat Andy.
Kevin played well to beat Eddie, with two useful breaks.
Simon & Billy had a ding dong of a game, with Simon making a crucial break at the end.
I had a poor game on a table that I usually do well on, I built a small lead, but young Chris finished it off with a fine 4,500 break.
It makes it interesting for the 2nd leg at the Democrats Club, with the date still to be decided.

Northants B 2 v Northants A 3
Played at the Cock last night, and came away with a 3-2 win. We are also about 15K up on aggregate. We knew it would be a tough match.
The return leg is planned for May 15th at Rushden Cons.
