With everybody very much in the Christmas spirit of giving...... an enjoyable and close match was played. ;)
United Services Club 3 Black Horse 2
Bill Kerr 5,050 - 4,760* Rick Bithell Both players had a couple of reasonable breaks in this game.... and both left the one up short once they were settled. ::) Rick was on the break when the bar dropped, trapping a white with him 540 behind Bill. He played the break shot 3 times and was left needing the 200 hole to win.... his second attempt hovered on the edge of the hole but didn't drop, Bill made no mistake in the 100 hole. 1-0 :)
Tony Jenner 1,480* - 650 Jan Bithell The scoreline here doesn't tell the story properly, between them they probably lost over 10k! :o Tony was the main "offender" losing over 7.5k in 3 breaks, Jan decided to join in with losing a couple of breaks worth over 2k as well. In the end, the one break of 1.2k that Tony had kept on his second visit to the table proved the difference. 2-0 :-[
Colleen Park 1,950 - 3,700* Dave Knight A solid 1.2k start from Dave was quickly joined by another 2k break for him. After that Colleen played some very good shots to get back into the match and the scores would have been much closer if she hadn't have lost a couple of breaks. 2-1 :'(
Gina Sherratt 930* - 940 Richard Wooton Very hard to explain this very bizarre game, after 5 minutes the scores were locked at 0-0! The balls seemed to be attracted by a magnet to the middle of the table in front of the 10 hole despite repeated efforts to move them.... with every attempt ending up with another ball in the same place. ::) Gina finally managed to get a few points on the board to gain the lead, Richard replied with a break of 430.... the highest of the game.... and then touched up! :o Inevitably, it came down to who was on the table when the bar dropped.... and Richard played a couple of good shots to clear 4 balls and leaving himself 210 in front with just 1 white ball left. Gina popped it in the 200 hole on her first attempt. 2-2 ??? :'(
Dave Ingram 5,970 - 560* Richard Todd And so to the decider, Richard missed both balls on his opening shot, I got the break back after a couple of shots and was going well on just under 3k when I managed to knock the cue ball off the D with my cue when about to play the break shot. :o :-[ Richard played a terrific shot to clear that ball, but then missed the red off the spot. :o We then spent a bit of time at the back of the table before I got the break back and touched up on 5k to make sure of the win. 3-2 8-)
Very enjoyable evening in good company, some good laughs and a nice spread of sausages, chips, chicken wings, cheese selection and sliced French stick. 8-)
Merry Christmas to everybody in the Lewes League... we look forward to seeing you all next year. ;D ;D

..........when I managed to knock the cue ball off the D with my cue when about to play the break shot. :o :-[ Richard played a terrific shot to clear that ball, but then missed the red off the spot. Seems someone should acquaint themselves with All-England Playing Rule 27 O) : ;) ;) ;D O) If the cue ball fails to reach an imaginary line through the black peg and parallel with the top cushion and does not strike another ball, it will be returned to the tray and the player loses his break. (this does not apply to the last ball of the game).Having said that, Lewes League have some Rules that apply exclusively to their own League - so in the circumstances the correct decision was probably made !

Yes, I am aware of that AEBBA Rule..... ;) .....however, the Lewes Rules are slightly different in that no reference is made to passing the "imaginary line" through the Black Peg, it simply states that if the ball is obstructing the "D" when viewed from directly above it shall be returned to the tray. As this was about an inch off the "D", it was clearly "in play", so a correct decision was made to play it from where it finished..... although a horrible place to leave it, especially in a match that was being played off the spot! :-[ Richard played a terrific shot down to get that ball down to the 30 hole..... only to then miss with both balls with the red in the normal break position. :o

Yes, what you have quoted is also in the All-England Rules, 27c and 27d: C). Any ball returning over or obstructing the baulk line. A ball shall be deemed to be obstructing the baulk line if when viewed from directly above it obscures any part of the line. The ball should be returned to the rack. D ). Any ball obstructing or hitting the "D". A ball shall be deemed to be obstructing the "D" if when viewed from directly above it obscures any part of the " D". The ball should be returned to the rack. AEBBA Rules 27c and d seem to have been embraced by Lewes, but not 27o which was added to AEBBA Rules in March 2008 (after being proposed as I recall by Keith Sheard). Obviously news of this has not filtered through to Lewes. ::) Both Horsham and Mid Sussex have made it simple for themselves by having deleted any separate 'Playing Rules' and just saying 'Playing Rules as per SCBBA' (which effectively means as per AEBBA, as Sussex in turn adopted AEBBA Rules of Play.)

BEERMATT BREWERS:1 PLOUGH:4
Paul:1420 Trevor:1350 Lynne:560 Darren:790 Spud:1580 Chase:1810 Pete:850 Ron:1390 Nige:990 Sean:1550
In this instance, the scores do tell the whole story, with all 10 players struggling . Darren and lynne even contrived to black peg in succession in their match. The first three matches went down to the last ball, but only Paul could convert for us. Whilst the Billiards may not have been too special, it was still a good evening with the Plough team and at least the matches were nice and close.
