What ever happened to the comp called Spoons?
People on here in 2004 were on about it all the time and saying I should enter, however I never knew what it was, so what was it?
Doug and Sav were the main people talking about it :D!

It would suit you down to the ground! I am certain you would of beaten the reigning champion, you would be perfect. You have every requirement necessary.
It should happen, but not if you don't come. But we cannot tell you beforehand as you would be able to practise and that would be unfair.

I agree. And having been champion on one occasion only to lose my title the following year - it is something that you need to be very committed to.

Fazza and Elsie are absolutely right , so be patient Johnny, I've no doubt you'll do well when the chance arises.

When "the chance arises", you will indeed become "Sir Johnny".
That honourable title goes with the spoons award, did we tell you?

Is that why KT is SirKT?

No Johnny, Lady H decided to give me the title. I was never good enough to take on the Spoons champion, it was Paul Sainsbury at the time. We`ve had some classic match ups. Who could ever forget Wolfie Storch (god bless him), undoubtably the best ever, followed by Richard "Dicko" Pembroke i think.

Not actually witnessed a spoons match, but had it described to me by someone who lost a final once - sounds very competitive.

Do I not deserve an honour for being a champion for one year?

Sorry for the multiple post, but:
I know I was just a journeyman spoons player, but I do feel that my 'year of glory' at the home of the spoons championship, (the cauldron that is) The Hampshire (incidentally, I will be revisiting this venue as I will be staying there this year) deserves a postumous honour.
Jonny - it was one of the greatest nights of my life - you will not need to train physically, but mental toughness is the key!

I believe novices have a much better chance of glory, that is why our Johnny would be a perfect contender

Your right there I think Johnny being a couple of decades or so younger than me would have better powers of concentration and I'm not sure if the amount of beer I had drunk helped

Yes I took on the legendary Sainsbury at the Lansdale, Eastbourne many years ago.
The bout was declared null and void as advantage was taken of my advanced state of inebriation by certain skulduggery.
Its a while since we've seen a contest. With all due respect I think JG needs a couple of years before he should be exposed to a challenge, hes's no Dicko.
Sav.

Absolutely Johnny. Mind you, nerves of steel could be required also. After all, it does happen straight after the presentations, so you have a full audience watching as well.
Pressure or what? ;)

Speaking as someone who has also taken part in the game of SPOONS you do sound like you have the right qualities to take part and do well. What i will say is it's a nice feeling when you win but not very nice if you lose !!!

Hello everyone, I'm bringing back to life an old thread from the past, this is it's first post in 6 years...
I was wondering about young Johnny George today when doing my tipster thing, and I wonder if he ever got to play spoons? Is it even played anymore?
