As the Winter Season draws to an unusually early close its time to think on the League Cup.
There is not a committee meeting planned before commencement, but I may have to call one in early - mid Jan to decide the format.
Traditionally this is the competition where we try out ideas and vary the format according to player suggestions at the prior committee meeting.
Last year we played two groups with 3k break limit in the singles and triangles (not off-the-spot) in the pairs. The groups are always semi seeded with pairs of teams in ranking order drawn for either group. This prevents a division 2 team finishing up as cannon fodder with a load of division 1 teams, but also means a div 2 team will never qualify for the finals. Last year we only played bottom two play-off for the plate
We have lost division 2 teams, (Old) Bricks 'A' and Two Sawyers 'B' as they do not like to travel or face the big guns each of the last couple of years.
I feel the competition needs an overhaul and we have time to do it.
Suggestions please over Xmas so we can decide what to do in the first week in Jan.
I will email this thread around the league and please give an indication of your intention to enter here or by email to myself or Craig.
Have a good Xmas.
Sav.

I guess we should wait to hear from the Div 2 teams about why they dont like this format or want to play in this Competition - is it because they dont like getting beat by the "bigger" teams or the travelling in winter or never reaching the Final, or what? Then perhaps we can decide a different format, but this one seems fair and one that has worked recently. Let's hope we get some feedback........ Have a great Christmas everyone. Cheers Neville
