Congratulations to Barry Holt and Dave France on their victory in the Sussex Doubles, beating Alan Messer and Mal Spier 3-1 in the Final at the Hurst Club yesterday. 8-)
Barry & Dave beat Nigel Senior & Jim Greensted on aggregate in the semi-finals, while Alan & Mal had beaten Charlie Cooper & Edge Butler in the other half of the draw.
The losing Quarter-Finalists were Rick & Dick Dewdney, the 2 "Kevins" (Tunstall & Hall), Colin Southouse & Chris Turner and Peter Edwards and Richard Jeffrey.
On a day with plenty of high scoring games, the highest break was by Nigel Senior with 18,540.
The most exciting game of the day though had to be the "Plate" Final between Nick Brown & Neil Higgins and Mark James & Tony Lewis. With the first 3 games all going with the break, Nick & Neil took a 2-1 and 16,700 aggregate lead into the last game with Mark to break, a challenge that he took up superbly before missing one ball on the split and coming off at the back of the table just before the bar dropped on 16,650. Some nervous moments followed with all 4 players trying to clear the last few balls, but it was Nick Brown who potted the last 2 balls to seal the victory by just 150 points over the 4 legs. :o
A great game to watch..... 8-)
Many thanks to the Hurst Club for their hospitality on the day, Tony Jenner for all his hard work organsing the event, Sparky (and his helpers) for setting up the tables that all seemed to play very well, Colin & Brenda for the usual excellent food and Colleen for all of her help with the Admin..... :-*
