Congratulations to Milko and Milhouse, the new British Open Pairs Champions...... 8-)
Keith and Mark beat World Champions Phil Collins and Leon Beer 3-0 on a tricky table in the Final...... the ONLY table over the whole weekend that Keith didn't play out :o ......he touched up instead to make sure of the win! ;D
Merv Yearwood and Syl Murphy won the Plate Final against Andy Haines and Dino Clark. ;D
Many thanks to Dave Alder, Eric and everybody who helped the run the Competition..... and to all of the staff at the Queens Hotel who made everybody feel very welcome. 8-)

Congratulations to Milko & Millhouse on their victory over the World champs, Leon & Phil, in the final of the B.I. Open Pairs. It ended up a pretty one sided affair with Millhouse breaking off in the first of 4 leg final. On a 15 & a half minute table, his 9k opener was enough to take the frame, Keith added a few more and had a crucial look at the tricky top. Leon broke the second leg but was off under 2k. Keith followed and made a very slow 9k as the break got harder and harder. 2-0 up with Keith`s break to come, and he made the sensible, if not painstakingly slow decision to play one up and split for a well deserved 9k break . Great weekend as usual with one or two changes to the regular sequence of events.eg. there was no help yourself counter for the evening meals (you had to order off the menu). The fire alarm got a good airing, firstly during play on saturday and then at 1am >:( :-X this morning. Some problem on the fourth floor i believe, but no fires gladly ;D
The first round tie which was supposed to be "1 break each" according to most people between Phil & Leon and Sir KT & Mr Reaper wasn`t quite so straightforward. I opened up with 2550, Leon replied with 2500 and then i was first to get them back and finished off for a 7k lead. Phil was off on 1900 in the second, giving us a great chance for the win, but both Kev & myself couldn`t clear the balls, but Phil did and done enough to take the match and condemn us to the plate :-/ Their following match saw them against the other half of the Tunstall household, Lady H, with her partner, the Mantis. Leon opened with about 9k and when Hayley got the break back soon after, that was when the first alarm went off, VERY LOUDLY i might add. I`m not surprised she was off quickly after that. Phil made a bit more to give them a 12k lead. Hayley :-* then made her best ever break of 8,350,opening the second game, and certainly had the boys worried as she closed in on their score (there was a bit of pacing up and down going on). Finally, both balls stayed up and the W.Champs could breath again, Phil made another 4k after. Well done hunny on taking a leg off the Champs.
Congrats also go out to Syl Murphy & Merv Yearwood for winning the plate. Well done to Dave Alder and his helpers for a well organised competition

Well done Keith and Mark. I enjoyed the weekend, I thought that the food was much better than last years. was obvious that there weren't the numbers there this year. I did wonder whether it was time to move it on to another resort.....how about Hunstanton 8-) No?, Yarmouth then ;D, or even Clacton...............

A very well done to Keith and Mark.
Also well done to Eric and Dave and everyone else involved in the running of the tournament, it ran smoothly and on time as normal.
I do have one question, myself and Dave and Steve and Pete, all got to the semi final of the tournament yet did not receive anything for it. Previous years Semi finalists have received a reward for their efforts.
Can I ask why this has changed this year, with this being an open it seems strange that only the Winners and losing finalists receive prize money ??
Thanks
Richard

Well done to Keith and Mark on their win. Keith was the best player all weekend running table after table out, and Mark delivered when called upon in the final to make a 9k break on a table that was tricky putting their team firmly in command against the World Champs.
With regards to prize money, I do remember that semi finalists received something for reaching that stage when I ran it.
Can't agree on the food point though Colemanator....I missed the buffet! Great weekend as ever though - it would be nice to see some more numbers next year!

Thanks for the compliments on this forum and for the many congratulations that Mark & myself had after winning our first British Open Pairs together.
It was great to reach the final again and to win it against such a formidable partnership in Phil & Leon made it even sweeter. I must admit though to being rather shattered and very emotional at the end of the final in front of one of the biggest for spectators that I’ve seen for this tournament.
I would like to specially thank Dave Ingram & Max Dick who marked the final and at least another one or two other of our matches.
Regarding the Semi Finalists, I think they should get something, as I did when I lost at that stage in 2006.
May I say well done to those that set the tables up as they were all superb.
Also to Dave, Eric, Phil and everyone else who helped to make this one of the most memorable days of my life.
Thanks to you all.
Keith
PS Now I’m off to have a cry again.
