In the Dover, Deal & District Bar Billiards League, the Two Sawyers came away from The Chequer Inn, Ash with a deserved 4-2 win to inflict the first defeat on the home side. Stuart Richardson (4,480) pipped Chris Saville by just 90 points with a last-gasp maximum 3,000 break. Alan Smith (5,640) increased the lead before Tim Bourner (7,070) pulled a game back for Chequer. Richard Cousens & Smith (1,790) won the first doubles to increase Sawyers lead, but Neville Potts & John Addley (1,300) put the home side back in with a chance of a draw. However, Smith & Richardson (2,000) concluded the win thanks to another impressive late break by Richardson.
The Market Inn A won 5-1 at home to the Magnet B to retain second-place. Craig Carlson (5,110), Ted Hogben (2,020) and Derek Latham (4,020) swept the singles, with further Market success for Carlson & Hogben (1,090) and Hogben & Latham (1,910). Highlight of the doubles was a superb 1,490 triangles-break from Dawn Williams as she & Shirley Cowdrey won 2,430-1,230 for the Magnet's point.
The Royal Oak were held to a 3-3 home draw by Betteshanger Club in Nonington. Roger Oldfield (1,660) and Steve Lake (2,730) won either side of a Betteshanger victory for Ricky Cowdrey (1,820). Oldfield & Lake (1,610) took the first doubles, before Betteshanger successes for Dave Howarth & Ward Griffiths (1,840) and Cowdrey & Howarth (1,330) forced the draw.
In Group B, the Plough & Harrow (Bridge) A won 5-1 away to the Plough & Harrow B in Tilmanstone. Plough Bridge swept the singles via Baz Symes (2,030), Keith Symes (2,320) and Ian Dennett (2,990), with Dennett & Baz Symes (2,590) and Keith Symes & Dennett (2,000) taking the first two doubles to secure the match. Plough Tilmanstone’s point came in the last leg from James Tidmarsh & Ian Jamieson (1,770).
