I thought summer ended in late july !! Yes Tommo it's for next year. I fully expect Handcross millers to enter a team. Ian

Good. Well, I'm up for entering a Handcross combined team. I enjoyed taking part in the Watney Mann (Sussex zone) this summer, and there's also Worthing's Nobby Clarke and Brighton's Off-the-spot if anyone's interested next year. 8-)

It's down to Glenns dodgey spelling altough the board is spelt Horsham the link is horesham didn't worry at first maybe Glenn or KP could sort out !! On the subject of Brighton off the spot if you look on the Brighton board you will see that there was only 20 places & they went very quickly :( :(.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Brighton Off-The-Spot Open Knockout Team event, if they still run that one, for next year. The 20-entry one you are referring to, Ian, is, I think, an Individual event.
It was a summer competition and I have a very nice wooden trophy here dating back to 1994/95 when we (Neville's Windmill team) won it. 8-)

Tommo check the dates on that trophy again as I expect it was more like 1949/59 ;D ;D ;D

Ha ha. Well, I've done a trawl through the Brighton Website, and - you're right , there's no mention of it. :o But it did happen, as someone in the know from Brighton (Mark James perhaps ?) would be able to confirm. Another little bit of history that has been wiped out or re-written (sorry have been reading The Da Vinci Code). Rather like the Horsham Festival Cup which was also a great competition - 'Open' to all leagues in Sussex but discontinued in 1997 after we won it. :(

It would be nice to include some details on my website listing former winners etc but not sure who would have details. I know there used to be an off the spot doubles as well as I am pretty sure I entered the last one with my dad in about 1998 before the off the spot went to one day and singles only.

Nigel, Apart from the evidence of the award - much valued as you can imagine with it being a Brighton one - details from this end are sketchy. Two of our players who took part are sadly no longer with us (Neville Edwards and Tony Francis) and I linked up with them just to make the numbers up. Although I finished up playing in every round, I can't remember who else was in our team - nor even who we beat in the Final ! I have a vague recollection of playing against a team containing Mark and 3-times-champ, as I did my renowned stunt of not pulling the handle properly and getting a short game (it's not deliberate, honest !) and the aforementioned getting quite hot under the collar. Steve Mariner if anyone is the one to approach for details.
