Heard that Phil Collins wanted to play in this, and after speaking to Phil & Leon Beer on Sat night was surprised to find out that neither of them knew anything about it.
Were the entry forms not sent to Didcot ???

Phil, the forms were sent out, according to the quote below, so I don't know why you didn't get one at Didcot Con Club. Quote, by Peetee ("County Singles entry forms for Men and Women are now in circulation and must be returned to Pete with £5 entry fee by 23rd April 2010"). Mike Jones has a bye, so perhaps they may fit you in there, if you ask. Keith

Hi Phil I think the sheets were sent to your league secretary for distribution. i certainly got them from Pete for the Witney league and dished them out...not that many entered from Witney... Do what Keith says and ring Pete to see if you can take the bye slot. cheers Tony

All draw sheets were sent out to pubs and clubs and also to other league secretary's. Every team in Oxon should have received an entry form.( The closing date was the 23 rd April...) I have to put trust in other associations Secretary's hoping they distribute entry forms to their teams.
This procedure may change next year.
Thanks Tony for your comments.

well if we had a sheet it was never put up on the board. you carry on and play as there would only be moaning if i was put into the draw after it has been done. all i say is it would be nice to know about in the future. it does seem funny that the horse and harrow players knew about it though.

Sorry Phil you must put the blame on Dave T. Paul Lawson must have know about it, it was he that sent in the Harrow's entries. Cheers Pete

I have heard unofficially that Colin Winstone has withdrawn from the county singles. I think the story is that his family have bought a surprise ticket for wembley.
Come on you yellows

Congratulations to Mike Jones & Pauline Withey who have both won their respective County Singles at the Gladiators Club today.
Mike beat Dave Tooke in the mens final and Pauline beat Sue Atkins in the ladies.
I'm sure Tony will do a full report when he's next on here.
Keith
PS I don't think anyone would have got that tipsters correct for the men!! :o

Yes indeed, very well done to Pauline Withey, Mike Jones and Oxford United!! The day was spoiled a little by waiting for people who had not informed anyone that they were not going to be there but we eventually carried on and there were some close games and thanks to all who did make the effort to play. Dave Tooke provide the first surprise by knocking out defending champion Keith Sheard and then Ian Moss took out an injured Dennis Atkins, both in Round two. Ian went on to lose to Mike Jones in the semis but Dave T went on to the final, surviving a semi-final tie against Jon Bamsey who blacked at a critical stage in the first game on a tricky table and lost enough to have won the match. In the final it was a nip-and-tuck affair with Dave narrowly winning the first leg by 1540 and Mike coming back at him in the second to set up a last ball decider. Dave missed and Mike didn't to provide Oxon with a new name on the trophy and good luck to him on the 3rd October in Reading. In the analogous Ladies contest, Sue Atkins beat last years champion Jenny Florey 2-0 to earn a place in the Final. Pauline Withey played young star Mel Stanbridge and won the first fairly easily. Mel came back very well in the second but didn't make the aggregate back despite winning that leg 5880-4810. A repeat of the previous evening's Oxford League Ladies final was then played out with a reversal of fortunes, Pauline taking the County title by two games to nil against Sue Atkins. Well done to Pauline and good fortune at Reading PO club on October 17th. Full results at tiny.cc/bre3ucheers Tony
