shame the plough team was looking for a new venue i believe due to irragularity of there top would have been nice to see them over there Having played there last season as a home player in Horsham (giving all the breaks away), I would say that the table was always level and had been brushed, ironed and the balls and pockets cleaned by Mark before every home game that we had...... there are very few tables that I know of that have that sort of treatment. 8-) Having said that, it will catch you out the moment you drop your level of concentration and the break is certainly quirkier than many tables which catches out many players and, as a result, the scores there tend to be lower than on some other tables...... but good scores are still possible and I averaged 7k+ there in Horsham League last season and won all of my games. ;D I've not played at the Fountain so have no idea how good / bad the table is there, but I will be quite happy to play at the Plough again this year, as and when required. ;)

we have 2 teams from the Plough same as last season. 8-) it is a shame that the Fountain side could not carry on as they were always a good laugh.

Must've changed in the last 3 years Jim, it was always the worst table in Horsham league (after Oddfellows dropped out), lovely team, great sports but with such an unstable floor it was impossible to keep the table level
... regarding the Plough.... providing you used enough pace to counteract the (constantly changing) roll, and were prepared to screw loads of side on the break.... I thought it played OK ;)

But it is always a shame to lose another pub venue - there are all too few left in Horsham town itself. The Norfolk was another good venue lost, the table played really well while 'Noggs' Newman was the landlord there.

Might have something to do with The Fox looking after it then. I wouldn`t like to think how long it had been since it was last ironed before I started. I have given the cleaner the job of brushing it daily and it seems to be working well now!
It has been moved to the poolroom as the said pool table has been removed from the pub, so its no longer by the drafty back door which probably added to the old character of the table!

Well, I'll endorse the Fox's knowledge of table care, obviously trained by the 'master', D.C. I've learned much from speaking to/watching firstly Steve Mariner, and then (later) Sav.
I wonder where Sparky picked up his expert knowledge? :-/

I wonder where Sparky picked up his expert knowledge? :-/ Initially from Mario and 3Times (at the Queens Head 8-)) then tried to absorb from everyone I could including Sav/Nigel/KT, but even seemingly less knowledgeable people than those have given me valuable tips from time to time without even knowing it. For me the secret has been to listen and try out what people say and sometimes a particularly quirky top will respond to something I remember but rarely use. Many times I have had conflicting advice but found each to be relevant at some time or another, as tables can vary so much. I try to encourage others to learn how to set-up tables and willingly show them what I do, but they will still need a good eye and cueing action, also know how to use a spirit level for the initial set-up.

The Jersey Dave Jones (he in the suit) imparted some invaluable knowledge too.
Great that you've sorted the Hurst table out, Sparky, I had a go on it two Thursdays ago whilst the meeting was going on in the room, and it was so far out of true I just took the pegs off and started experimenting with angles.

......................or, we can take a thrashing but that would mean we do not show our hand too early. ;D (Part of a cunning plan.)
Either way we're on a winner. 8-)

Don't know about being favourites - last year's relegated team will take some beating! ;) Thanks for the warm welcome, the Mill House table has been taken out of mothballs and received some tender loving care last weekend: has been sanded down and varnished and this is the result: A nice buff up with furniture polish will complete the job

Almost presentable, Tim !
I still have a couple of chunks to fill in, and have retained your notes for doing this.
There is a raggedy bit at the front, MrMike has cured this with a new bit of Duck tape.
Whole job took 2 and a half hours (1 and a half for the sanding and 1 hr for the varnishing.)
