Hello there!
there is no table at the Tharp Arms, Chippenham, Nor is there one at the Red Lion, Swaffham Prior. There's no table at the Kings head/Arms Wilburton either. There used to be one a year or two ago in the Afflek Arms in Dalham (south of newmarket and into Suffolk) but that has been removed in the last year or so.

Hello Tommo
went to the Empress in Cambridge tonight. Supreme table still in use then 300M to The Earl of Beaconsfield which has a completely seperate room across a courtyard that is used as a library and hads a table still. can't say which make but an old one that is neglected with crisps, overstretched and torn at the pockets beize and the cups are 2mm below the surface. Ali and I played our first games of 3-pin in the Empress but played 3-pin 4 pin style at the Earl's. no skittle over the 100, 30 in the middle pocket.
on to The White Horse in Milton found two league players on the table there. challenged one to 3 pin and lost on the last ball decider and then did my 3-pin-4-pin style again with him and i won mine on the last ball. nice table!
the league was on the wall and all that are left are The White Horse Milton The Social Club, Six Mile Bottom The White Horse, Swavesey The Carpenter's Arms, Gt. Wilbraham
the Waggon & Horses in Milton has been an Italian Restaurant for 3-4 years.
regards
Taffy

Thanks for the update on the Cambridge & Dist.League, Taffy. So sad to learn that they are down to just four teams. It seems not too long ago that they were affiliated to All-England and took part in National competitions. They had some decent players too.

Three Horseshoes, Stapleford has a bar billiards, and it's used for 4-Pin if the moving picture on the website is anything to go by: cambridge.pub/the-three-horseshoes-pub-cambridge/The Three Horseshoes Pub (Non-league 4-Pin) 2 Church Street, Stapleford, Cambridge, CB22 5DS 01223 503402 horseshoes@cambridge.pub [edit - formerly the Longbow, already on our map.]

What a shame I didn't see the info from last August till yesterday! the Brook has only just taken out the Bar Billiards table. gave it back to essex leisure. apparently 3-4 years ago the pub had a pool table and the customers wanted it back. we could have organised something with the 'Earl of Beaconsfield' perhaps. anyway, too late!
the three horseshoes at Stapleford have always had one - even when thwe pub was called the Longbow and back to the three horseshoes before that! It is still there and it is........4-pin! I see from the Google pub photos my Stock Car Racing friend Russell Cooper (415) was at some kind of fete/show/display with his car at the pub.
anyway, i will be investigating this table! Stapleford isn't far from Six Mile Bottom or Great Wilbraham.... they are 3-pin.
cheers

Your report awaited with interest ! You should be confronted with an excellent Jelkes previously rented from Bar Billiards Ltd (Ascot) if this other shot of the table is anything to go by: Don't forget to take an extra pin along with you as four-pin only applies to the northern part of the county (Isle of Ely) ...

went to the Three Horseshoes at Stapleford last night. Stapleford is just south of Cambridge. 4-pin table which i make it is the only one for 40 miles in any direction. very unkept table. had to belt the balls to get them in the holes, the D is 4" wide, pins are 15mm from the holes. game was 6-8 minutes long, 9 whites and a red, one cue, no chalk, nearly all the coat hooks broken. 1,500 was an excellent score. Ally beat me twice. Landlady not there = will try and catch up with her. couldn't tell which table but Ally spotted Sams Bros. games were free, slot was for the old 6D (yes really) so hasn't taken a penny from anyone for years yet nobody in the pub (5 people) knew how much it cost to play including staff so obviously overplayed.....! so here's a question; you show willing and you are going to do all the work so how would you go about making things 'work'? here's what I'm thinking; offer to do only three things, firstly, to take the clock/coin box and machine the parts to allow it to take the modern £1 coin. 2) to hoover, polish, level the top, do some spots, new leather patch for the D. 3) to put notice up for regular meets for a game on say a Friday evening IF the landlady doesn't shove wedding reception scoff ontop of it. or less than that? or nothing as they clearly 'can't be arsed'? Thanks for your report, Taffy, have "yellowed in" on the list near the top of this thread as one recently visited and table confirmed as still there.
With two main plusses (a 'wide' table such as you like, and a table in a village on the outskirts of Cambridge) you just may have found a base for your operations. The Cambs 3-Pin League won't have taken an interest if it's set up for 4-Pin.
Margo and I planned to investigate a few up in Fenland last week on the way to our holiday destination. But the B1040, a straight road towards Kings Lynn, was closed after Ramsay St Mary's resulting in a detour taking us 40 miles out of our way so we gave up.
No wonder Hereward the Wake was able to hold out so long against the Conqueror in the 11th century !

Just checked with them Tommo, The Green Dragon and the Hudsons Ale House (was known as the 'Tally-ho) in Cambridge no longer have a table. I also checked with the Brook about two months ago and it had just take out its table very recently.
cheers

The Plough, Farcet Fen, Peterborough has closed completely. Taffy The Plough has unfortunately been knocked down completely. Trying to find out what has happened to the table but no joy as yet. I am Peterborough based and believe the last table was at The Newark Hotel. Not sure if it is still there though.

There is now a table in The White Swan at Stow-cum-Quy (kah-why) just North-East of Cambridge. 9 Main St, Stow cum Quy, Cambridge CB25 9AB. 01223 811821 landlord is Mat. They are open midweek from 4pm and they serve food. The table is a Jelks that layed completely unplayed after it was fully refurbished by Bar Billiards Ltd 20 years ago. I merely had to change it to new £1 coins and put four pins on it. Christ these tables are heavy! Another young "strong" lad started to drop it, I told him to think of his mother one last time before he went to meet his maker! .....he didn't! cheers Taffy PS. The table at St. Johns College is gone.

yep, he'll be belting down that A14 and have a stop at last!
I'll tell you what made a big difference: I used a brass wire brush on the timer front plate and it buffed it right up!

Putting on my other hat, I'd say this table looks ideally suited to 3-Pin !

Putting on my other hat, I'd say this table looks ideally suited to 3-Pin ! Well yes. But it would be only suited to players who never have to play balls off the RH cushion methinks!
