Anyone else experiencing difficulties today ?
Slow getting in, and fine up to a point, but everytime I try "view last 60 posts" it throws me out completely.

Proboards were suffering from problems early this morning, neither of my forums would load (different servers) but the rest of the interweb (sic) was working fine.
All seems to be OK now

Thank you Bernie. I am installing Norton afresh for 2011 (having previously piggybacked from son-in-law's disk) and wasn't sure if I had been left vulnerable in the interim. (He has changed to McAfee as he gets it free as a BT employee.) Something else happened recently, our Broadband stopped working for the 2nd computer (USB connection) though the ethernet link (for 1st computer) is okay.
I wasn't sure if any of these problems were related, but you have now set my mind at rest. 8-)

My broadband speed is probably too slow, (waiting forever for it to download) but I'll keep persevering.

Just been moved over to latest Fibre Optic (BT Infinity): The difference in speed is amazing. The deal also includes free McAfee (virus checker) so it's bye bye to Norton.

I'm jealous Infinity will not make the slightest difference in our area as the village has still yet to get copper!! BT - "B****y Terrible". I'll plod on with my expensive but reliable WIMAX VHF radio link. Sav

Similar to Sav here, we (Liskeard) have migrated to 'superfast' broadband but personally I am at the very end of an overhead cable run about 3 miles from the exchange so I've not seen any difference 8-)
As far as McAfee v. Norton is concerned.... good luck, out of frying pan & into the fire springs to mind, I wouldn't entertain either of these (even for free).
1. As the most popular AV programs they are the ones that virii writers target (maximum coverage) 2. Both of these bloat your system 3. Neither are quick at updating their virus definitions.
For me Avast or AVG (both free versions) are 1. better, 2. quicker at updating, 3. have a higher 'hit' rate, 4. use less resources, & 5 ARE FREE ;D

Yeah, I remember you recommending Avast before, there's a thread on it somewhere. Will probably try it out in the last couple of weeks that I have Norton, and make my decision then.

Still on AVG Free myself, disk scans slows the machine a bit but I've never suffered a virus yet.

I am using Avast free Anti virus and have been for about 11 years and since I changed from AVG (which slowed my computer down whilst scanning) I have not had a virus, and Avast apart from updates twice a day, runs seamlessly. Norton bloated, ditto for McAfee. I build my own computers and some for other people, and have always used free Antivirus programs, all are still running and only one has ever been infected, due to not reactivating Avast after the first year.

Thanks Sav,
I think it's a BT Yahoo! thing again.
Seems to be clearing now.
