Many congratulations to all the winners at the Inter Area Associations One day event for 2011 at Didcot Conservative Club on Sunday, the day after the Oxon Open.
The Under 22 was comparatively well supported this year with 7 entries and these were split into two groups. Sam Alder won Group One with Craig Mace second and Phil McFarland third. All these players won one game and position was decided on aggregate. In group 2 Lewis Stratford came top with 3 points, Stephen Coleman was second with 2, Kirsty Jarvis third with one point and sister Bex failing to score. In the Semis, Lewis played consistently well to beat Craig 2-0 and in the other Stephen drew with Sam but prevailed on aggregate by 9370 to 6240. In the Final Stephen played consistent billiards to overcome the reigning champion Lewis by 2-0 and 10830 to 4090. Very well done to Stephen on a great victory over an excellent player and it’s good to see a new face on the title. High break went to Sam Alder with 4760.
In the Ladies group, we had four teams in High Wycombe, Oxford, Witney and Reading and as usual, this turned out to be a very close affair with Oxford and Reading vying for top spot with Witney not far behind. Before the last game between Sandra Tebby of Oxford and Eileen Britton of Reading started, both teams were on 9 points so whoever won this game, won the Championship for their team. Sandra kept her nerve and took the game with a 3760-1510 scoreline and Oxford were Champions again! Well done girls. :D
Debbie Barton took the high break award with an excellent 8430 and remained undefeated along with Pauline Withey, Carla Jolly, Mel Stanbridge and Janet Burns.
In the Mens group one, Wallingford started with a crushing 7-0 against Reading and Witney took a close match 4-3 against neighbours Oxford. In the second round of matches Witney got a very good 4-3 against the Wallingford team while Oxford rallied 5-2 against Reading. In the final round, critically Wallingford lost 4-3 to Oxford and Witney could smell a rare group victory! They won 5-2 against Reading to draw on points with Wallingford but went on matches won.
In the Mens group two, Portsmouth started with a close 4-3 victory over Northampton while Wycombe outplayed Eynsham by 6-1. In the second round Eynsham rallied to take a 4-3 victory oner Northants and Pompey beat a strong Wycombe side by 5-2. With Wycombe losing their last match 5-2 to Northants, Pompey took the advantage with a 4-3 win over Eynsham to reach the Final yet again.
In the Final, Witney took their chances and won by a resounding 6-0, with the seventh game being unnecessary, to take the title for the very first time. Well done to them.... ;D
Mark Trafford took the high break award with 10720 although Phil Collins was in imperious form all day, averaging over 16,700 in his three games! Other unbeaten players were Terry Cook, Roger Bowen, Keith Sheard, Tony Martin and Terry Isard.
Thanks to everyone who made it work so well on Sunday, especially to Dave Alder, along with Sam and Kayleigh, who helped enormously with the schedules and brought the tables, Jenny Parsons and Terry Alder for loads of things, Pete Soanes for doing the very successful raffle and Simon Ellam, Dennis Atkins and Dave Tooke for setting up the tables on Saturday and Sunday. Well done everyone....
All averages and a few photos will be on the Inter Area website soon at www.interareabarbilliards.co.uk/
cheers
