I received the draw this morning, and, as you were all waiting so keenly, but patiently, I've managed to work out the times even before preparing my large bowl of cornflakes.
I do hope you appreciate it.
I also hope you understand that there are only about 10 games not involving players travelling long distances this time as it seems so few local berks (Berks players, that is) enter their own event.
So the start time has been put back to 10.30.
The Plate will be 2 legs after rounds 1 and 2, and the final is scheduled for 6.30, so can we see if we can have a big crowd to see KT win yet another Open. OR not, as the case may be.
Any complaints, see me later. OR not, as the case may be.
milhouse's luck is back to normal, playing another big name (Mark Turner) in the first round, (and Steven S or Paul S in the 2nd......OR the first round of the Plate, of course), and Johnny has been given plenty of time to WALK from Cambridge if he cannot meet the proposed pick-up arrangements. ;D

I feel so happy to be going :D

Yes Johnny, but you have to get through Neale Chamberlain (stern opposition) and then "Q" (if HE beats Leon Beer) first.
Tip of the week: never look too far ahead in the draw.
BTW, I believe that the "Dave Barnes" in the draw is the Wallingford variety of that name, not the AE Sec who rarely plays in these events. Not to mention the fact that you could not meet him till the quarterfinals, and he would have to get past KT, Phil Collins and KS, to name but a few.
also BTW, I hope to leave about 8.30. Not heard from you yet about pick-up point?

My luck just gets better and better :( what a weekend i have had. Thought it couldn't get any worse after being robbed while playing cricket on Saturday :( :( Sorry to hear. Did the thief get away with much ? (I presume you weren't the only one to have stuff nicked, otherwise a team-mate could be implicated). Hopefully you can put in an insurance claim under your Home Contents policy - it's sometimes surprising what is covered.

Thanks Tommo. Had my Phone and £70. most of the team had stuff pinched aswell. Apparently we can't claim because the changing room wasn't locked !!! police didn't even bother to come out >:(

Mark,
Hope the mods won't chastise us for moving off-topic, but this is serious. Agreed that you can't claim off the cricket clubs liability insurance if the changing room wasn't locked, as it was more or less an open invitation to the thief. Despite the police not being interested in following it up, a crime was committed, and you should be able to claim for your own loss under your own household (contents) insurance, even though the loss occurred outside your premises. Mention that the police were informed. Dig that policy out and read the small print ! Of course, if you have a policy excess of £100 it won't be worth claiming, but if it's only £50 then maybe - at least you'd get a new phone out of it.

Very much depends on the type of policy. Some cheapies only cover stuff IN the house. Better policies only cover stuff removed from the house, and only a few would cover things left unattended in unlocked premises. Things may have changed since I left the industry in 2003, but doubt if that has changed. Also, if there is a no claims discount, claiming small amounts would not be a good idea anyway.
Also sorry to hear this awful news Mark. Good luck against MT anyway.

Thanks tommo and pete. I will be having a look into it to see if its worth it. Most of all its just a pain having to cancel the phone, then waiting for the new sim card to arrive, just good that they didn't pinch my cards aswell !

Sorry to hear about the robbery Millhouse :(
YES, I don't have to sit in a car with Fazza :D :D ;D My dad will take me.
I am optimistic and should reach last 16 and maybe show KP how to play!

So, without my guidance and being able to take advantage of my wise words, you think you will reach the last 16.
Good luck, Johnny boy. ::)
BTW, thanks for letting me know. :'( Despite that, the offer will still be there next time.
And Ian Coleman will now have to make his own way to Reading...... :P
PS: Why isn't your dad playing? There is always the reserve list.

That decision remains up to him, I can't answer for him.
I think he is only coming for support.

Sounds like one young player's loss will be another one's gain - by that I mean the "moulding of Milhouse" in the Pairs.

I am looking a bit foolish at the moment on this board, but by all means keep the sense of humour up :) Here is a good smiley to use Pete:

Don't you worry too much about us, Johnny. You just get as much practise as you can in before the Berks Open. It would be good for you if you could manage a good run in the event and make a name for yourself like Milhouse did in the Bucks.

Well it's not me because I'm "here"!
It's Keith, you feel like doing it to him after explaining 1,000,000 times that the CADBBA Forum and CADBBA Website are two different things!
If ever you want to meet the biggest technophobic person, it's Keith!

Don't take this wrongly, but I firmly believe you would enjoy the day and not suffer so much nervousness if you could stop telling people you are going to win weeks beforehand. I actually believe you probably will win a big event one day, but you will have to get a lot more experience before that happens. Only a few people go to these events with any real expectation of winning them, most go just to enjoy themselves and to knock a few balls in with hopes of just getting the chance of eliminating one of the big names now and again. That is how it works. If you came with that sort of attitude, it WILL happen one day. And people that do not know you will be more inclined to have a chat too. They will then realise they are not talking to a brash teenager, they are talking to a very keen youngster who wants to learn how to improve.
A big "well done", anyway, for winning those two single-leg plate games, and then losing to a VERY experienced player (Terry Alder) in your first-ever double-leg match at this level.
Does anyone remember that old song "Lord, it's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way"

Anyone like to share with those of us who didn't take part at Berks.................who won, who did well etc.
Come on, don't be modest !
Well done to Johnny George, b.t.w. Last eight of the plate is a fine achievement in your first Open. That's a good platform to build on.

Not me :'( :D Terry Alder is very solid. I hope he won (that way I would of got beat by the eventual winner)! However strongley doubt it because Paul sainsbury and Gareth Lloyd was is in it!

Paul S won the plate. Kevin beat Steven Sheard in the final. I believe Nigel S has put full details on another thread.

Oh yes, so Nigel did, just after I'd gone to bed. An all-Oxon final, but elsewhere Sussex did quite well. And Fazza (last 4) and Sav (last 8) proved that there's life in the old dogs yet ! ;) ;)
