Congratulations to my team mate Chris Reeves who won his first open in yesterday, beating yours truly in the final (eventually!) In fact it was an all Sussex semi final with Richard Wooton and Dave France joining Chris and myself. Come on Sussex!!!
Well done again Chris ;D Great curry :o

Congrats Chris on your first open. I`m sure it`s the first of many. Sussex dominated the event with 6 out of the last 8 players.

I would also like to congratulate Chris on winning his first Open, I knew he would after outplaying me in the last 16 on table 7. As a lot of the tables were quite tricky I thought I had done enough to earn the highest break trophy with my 21,000 + on table 1, but that speedy Gareth Lloyd took it off me on table 4. So well done to Chris, Gareth & the Sussex lads. We had some friendly banter during the day as well. :)
Keith.

Well done to Chris on his first open, fully deserved. Well done to Gareth who got to the final and also beating KT for the second time in succession (although I am sure he wouldnt want reminding of that).
It was an all Sussex semi final as Richard Wootonand Dave France came through their quarters. Pretty certain this is the first time Sussex have done this in an open. Not sure if any other counties have acheived this?

Wow, that performance is outstanding. Congratulations to the Sussex guys - you've gone to the champion county (Oxfordshire) and swept the board. Next job - win the county championship title back come September.
Fazza RPs earned by the bucketful. ;)

Thanks very much. I was over the moon in winning my first Open ;D.
Very well played to all the sussex players, was a very successful tournament! It was great to have 2 of my team mates in the semi finals. Unlucky Lloydy, I nearly handed it to you at the end, but somehow managed to get over the line!
The tournament ran very smoothly, so thanks to Ray Sturgess and all involved.
Although there were a fair few tricky tables, there was one very special one which I believe had not even been played before - it saw two 21k breaks (Lloydy and myself), three 19k breaks (myself, richard wooton, and tony walsh), and a 16k break (richard wooton)!
Glad you enjoyed the curry Lloydy!
Chris

The first Kipling BBQ is due about the end of March / beginning of November. Although ranking points are indiscriminate large amounts of points are awarded for showing off eg. winning the Oxford Open (congratulations to FeedtheGoat) Therefore showoffs should feature highly although Northants players, finally, will have a good chance at winning something :P

Sorry if that's come across in that way, Nigel - I deal in irony rather than in sarcasm. ;) As far as I know BBQ64 when it was given out on Saturday was still "hot off the press" - I have no idea at all of its content. I am hoping that it is now slightly more rewarding to take part in -and go a long way in - an Open. But from the sound of it it is not. I myself was disappointed at the somewhat paltry 1.1 points I received from getting the the last 16 of last year's Sussex Open.

Yes some of the tables where tricky and some easy. I was spared the sight of watching any of my opponents run the tables out I avoided 1 and 4 which were clearly superior to the rest. Approximately 90% of the breaks over 10K came from those two. It would have happened though in round 4 as I would have been on table 4 which everyone was finding to their liking and given I do well to score more than 6K it would have been a massacre. I watched the person who had beaten me in round 3 stand waiting for a shot and it never came. I think it might have been Gareth getting his top break but not 100% sure. I always admire someone who runs the table out because to me it demonstrates their class and ability especially on a neutral table.
I said to Ray at 8.30am that table 4 would be the big break because I saw how easily the balls dropped when we checked they were still level. I rolled a ball to each pocket and it fell without touching the sides and I thought please don't put me against a good player on this table unlpess its in my first game.
I had not seen the table draw other than I knew who I was playing so was glad when it was table 3 and not table 4. I watched Kevin Godfrey rattle up over 11K whilst playing my first game against Jason on table 3.
It looked like a relic from the dark ages 2 *10p a game the last time I saw that I was about 10 in the Democrats club ! but it certainly did not play like one - nice table who ever it belongs to.
Look forward to next years comp and if Ray wants my help again I will gladly offer as it made the day more interesting given I was out by 2.30pm after round 3.
