I would have thought paying less prize money is the option.
Simple maths at £9 and 14 short means £126 less than if 64 entered. So you simply take out the costs to find out what is left and factor the prize money accrodingly. Its not rocket science really after hearing what some of these events pay out for prize money. You can't tell me that the prize money is less than £126 for the competiion in total. Maybe another thought is to remove if you are doing any payouts and trophies for Qtr's and just do the Semi's there is always a solution to this kind of thing to ensure it runs.
Here is the obvious option the venue is going to make a fortune out of hosting it so why not ask them to meet you half way on the reduced entry fees. Ask them to sponsor the cost of one table its hardly going to take all their profit for the day and besides no event = zero profit for them anyway.
Come on guys sort it out, if I am not selected to play pool that day for Oxon I would be up for a last minute entry and by the fact your short of 64 shouldn't be a problem right....

I agree with most of Beefy's assessment apart from the bit about cancelling "last 8" trophies. Were I that good (I'm not!) I'd be more concerned about not getting a last-8 trophy than I would in being £20 down on, say, a runner-up award. I don't think prize money matters that much to those with a realistic chance of winning, anyway - it's the glory that counts !
Still think that Nigel's idea of us all paying more at the door is the simplest solution and the best. If it needs justification to those who weren't forewarned, you could hand out (at the door) the programme/copy of the draw and make it the charge for that.

Certainly I and my party are all happy to pay a couple of Quid extra on the door.
Spoke to Jean Brackenbridge yesterday evening and you should have entry for her and Alan on its way.
If we leave that we are willing to pay extra on the door what is the latest date for entries that could be set, for you to do draw and arrange everything in time to inform us all of start times etc.

Lady H & I would be happy to pay on the door also. I can`t remember how far down the prize list you give trophies for. I know when we ran the Oxon open, i stopped giving out trophies for the last 16 and made it for the 1/4 finalists and upwards only. If we had a good raffle on the day, i then gave some prize money for the players who finished in the last 16 as a token for their efforts.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings :'( but i`ve just found out when speaking to Merv that Brian Jones has passed away. We would like to pass on our condoloncies to all his family. This couldn`t have come at a worse time for the Bucks boys who are all very close. Brian was such a great guy. At the Opens, he would always come and have a chat and a laugh, whether he was winning or not (more often not) ;) I liked Brian very much. He`ll be sadly missed

I agree with all you guys.
The Bucks open must go ahead whatever. If we have got pay £2-3 each extra, or reduce prize money.
The most important part of the day is to enjoy it win or lose.
Good luck you Bucks guys and hope to see you all on the day!

Thanks for your kind words Kevin. It's not to late to enter, we have decided to run with the open anyway, not entirely sure about the costings yet, but the event will go ahead. Merv

That's absolutely great news, Merv. You have saved a lot of people from being disappointed.
And as you already realise, any approach you may come up with to "balance the books" will be favourably received.

Going ahead is great news, another thought I have had if each entrant brought a raffle prize this would save the cost to the organisers of boying raffle prizes. I know all ideas are costly, but how do we all feel with the idea. We would have to spread the word as not all participants would necessarily use this forum.

Most of the raffle prizes are donated anyway, so we don't have to worry about that too much, It is looking like we might get 64 people now so I think we are able to keep the cost at £10 which is good news. Markb, if you want to enter, please give Andy Haines a call. You can find his number on the entry form that Tommo put a link on on the first page of this thread. I would just like to say thanks again for all your support. Merv

The draw has only just been done (this weekend past).
But from some advanced knowledge I have, Mark, both yourself and Curt Driver are playing in the 4th series which is likely to be at 12.15.

Hi Guys. I cannot see Tony Jenner's name listed in the draw. I know he entered because he entered Bill Kerr, Steve Aylmore and myself at the same time.

Putting on my Columbo mac I suspect Tony is probably down as Tony Johnson here Dave. The draw sent to me by Andy Haines shows a Tony Johnston down to play Eric Hill. Perhaps they couldn't read one of your lots writing ;) "Just one more thing"- I will send an email to Andy to check and confirm this ;)

We did have a bit of trouble reading the entry of one particular group sent in, and it was probably this one. Merv

Keeping the start times hidden is the organisers secret weapon maybe they have a hard draw or alternatively its to maximise the revenue by making everyone turn up at 10am !
