You can only drink enough, never to much.

You can only drink enough, never to much. After much time, effort & money spent in testing this theory I can say the results are inconclusive and so further representative samples will be necessary ;D ;D ;D

Wondered how the entries were going? Is anyone publicising it in Bournemouth? Send some entry forms for distribution perhaps?

The Guernsey Bar Billiards Association would like to offer all competitors in the forthcoming Hamilton Trustees Guernsey Open, lifts from the Airport to the venue, if at all possible. I have already been contacted by a few entrants and over the coming few weeks am happy to organise transport for those who want it. I and severel others get the easy job, whilst the workers set up the tables ! I look forward to hearing from you, with flight numbers and names. Send pm to me direct. normanw@cwgsy.net We are looking forward to welcoming you all to the first ever GUERNSEY BAR BILLIARDS OPEN. Sill a few places left if you wish to contact Bob Chapple a.s.a.p.

This event is rapidly appearing above the horizon !
Any news on what the final number of entries was?
Hopefully a late flurry of entries from your neighbours Jersey, two at the last count does not represent much of an effort ! ;)

See you in May

The one thing that amazes me though is the lack of interest from your neighbours in Jersey. 3 entries - wow :o Surely they could have come up with another 8 players to make the 64 :( All the years i`ve been going to the BIOC & the World championships, there has always been a good Guernsey contingent. Shame they can`t return the compliment in your first tournament. :-/

I was trying to drum up some enthusiasm amongst the crapauds when we took them on in a friendly the night before the International.
The general consensus was that inter-Channel Island travel is more expensive than one might think, the islands being further apart than we mainlanders might realise. Something like £74 for a one-way ticket was mentioned.
So I think that those who made the effort to come over to England in Feb may be excused as Guernsey falls pretty soon after that. But I too am surprised that some of the top players who didn't make the International aren't going all out to win the inaugural competition. It must make Mr Gallienne's job seem all the easier ! ;)

I agree with Tommo that the inter-Channel Islands travel costs are not the cheepest around but we have this week booked return flights to jersey for the Inter-insular the weekend before the Open at £71 return so IMHO it is not the cost that is keeping people away.
New total for the Open is 55 :) sadly one Englishman who emailed me that he wanted to enter did not forward the entry fee or reply to my emails when I enquired if he was coming so one down :(.
The draw is taking place in the next couple of hours. If anyone still wants to enter there are nine byes/empty places that can be filled.
See you in May if I'm still sane :P. Bob

Chelle and her crew together with 16 of the Guernsey players will probably make a good start on the hotel bar supplies Friday evening, so you better make use of the duty frees on the plane and stock up. Just in case.

What a great weekend :D :P
Well done to the Guernsey boys for their first ever Open. Well organised and a fantastic venue. The Peninsula hotel was superb. Lovely location, friendly staff and bloody lovely food (stomach talking). Although out of the town, you can jump on a bus for 60p ( which will take about 20mins normally) into the town centre.
I`m pretty sure they will run it again next year (same weekend), the hotel have said yes and Bob will be negotiating with his boss again regarding the sponsorship (which was very generous).
Big thanks to Norman and friends again for ferrying people to & from the airport.
Congratulations to Nigel on becoming the first ever Guernsey open winner, beating local favourite & World champion Trevor Gallienne in the final. They both overcame stiff opposition in their semis in the shape of Phil Collins & Leon Beer respectively.
Well done also to Sue Mariner who defeated Steve Sheard in the Plate final.
1/4 finals Leon bt Kt Phil bt Ian Champion Nigel bt Tommo Trevor bt Tom Oliver
Semis Trevor bt Leon Nigel bt Phil
Those of you that don`t like the cut-throat nature of the single game set-up in Jersey in the early rounds, might prefer this one as it is double games all the way through, and the plate.
Look forward to next year ;)

I will just add my thanks to Bob, Norman and everybody else involved in the organisation and running of the Guernsey Open......
Peninsular Hotel was great (both as a hotel & venue), the tables all offered a fair but different challenge (in different colours too! 8-)) to the players and the welcome from the Guernsey players was fantastic....!! ;)
Congratulations to the winners, Nigel & Sue, but there were some great games played by many of the players there, even those not mentioned by SirKT.
I suppose that I could have simply said.......
THANKS FOR A GREAT WEEKEND TO YOU ALL!! ;D ;D ;D
