Just to let you know that the entry list is full and can the last few people who have not sent on their cheque yet do so.
Anyone who wants to enter will now be put on the reserve list and please do so as there are always people dropping out of Opens.
We hope to do the draw in the next couple of weeks.
Take care Mary

Directions reminder
When coming into Portsmouth you need to come in via PORTSMOUTH E (EAST) A2030, When coming into Portsmouth from M27 don't go down M275 ferries turning, keep going on M27 which turns into a 4 lane duel carriage way, then you will get the sign Portsmouth E / A2030, Football sign should be there. If heading from Sussex on A27 or London via A3 (A3M) then the A2030 is the 1st turning off for Portsmouth.
When on the A2030 at the 4th set of traffic lights turn right into Tangiers Road. Then go virtually to the end of Tangiers road and turn right into Folkestone Road, carry on straight until you see Moneyfields Club at end,Parkings limited so try and arrive early.
PLEASE NOTE THAT BURRFIELDS ROAD (3RD SET OF TRAFFIC LIGHTS ON THE A2030) SHOWS A ROAD GOING TO MONEYFIELDS CLUB, BUT THIS IS A BUS LANE ONLY AND THERE IS NO WAY DOWN IT.
Also the name/address for the club is Moneyfield Sports & Social Club. Moneyfield Avenue, Portsmouth. PO3 6LA (Handy for anyone with sat-nav!) Also it would be worth while remembering that parking can be difficult if the local Sunday football is on, so make sure you leave in plenty of time for parking.

I would like to say thank you & very well done to Mary & Brian Daniels & tony Webster (and anyone else responsible) for making the whole weekend possible. A greta job by all of the admin staff to ensure the event ran smoothly, on time (even early !), and well organised.
I personally, as a portsmouth open virgin, had a really great weekend & am already looking forward to next year.
also, congratulations to Mark James for winning the Portsmouth Open final, & to Keith Sheard for winning the Portsmouth Open Plate final.

Rarely has any Open been staged with so few problems. Well done to all the hard workers over the last three days. The energy levels reached by Brian, Mary, Kady and especially little Tony were remarkable.
Relief that the two finals last night could be played on the less-testing, higher-scoring tables, and it was a pleasure to score the final between two really nice blokes, and Ian:
I will re-set the black pin again any time you like. Promise!
The only trouble was that doing that exhausted me so much that I had to pull over into a service station on the way home and have a 30-minute kip to avoid veering off the road during my 140 mile drive. Arrived home at 12.15ish and slept right through till 7.30, almost a recent record.

I'd like to add my thanks to the organisers of this event which ran like clockwork.
And congratulations to the winners of the Main event and the plate, Mark James and Keith Sheard, respectively.
And to the runners-up in Main event and plate, Ian Lelliott and Curt Driver, respectively.
And commiserations to any who took part and had a 'bad day at the office' such as myself. ::) ;D

Congratulations to Mark on a great win. He missed very little all day with wins over Chris Reeves and Jon Bamsey with table runouts. And he didn't miss either against Gary Johnson after Gary went off with 5k. A last ball win on tricky table 5 against Mal was his slice of luck that every open winner needs on the day. This is Marks 3rd individual major adding to the All England Singles (2001), & Berks Open (2003). Oh, and many thanks for the curry Mark, in Worthing, that we enjoyed to celebrate your win!
Ian also had a great day to make another open final, again he was to fall just short, but he keeps knocking on the door and surely will come through it at some stage.
Great tournament as usual in Portsmouth, many thanks to the organisers for a well run day

Those semi-finals actually are worthy of further commentary. KT was kicking himself over missing a split - which turned out to prove fatal. And there was drama in the other match: After Jon Bamsey had played out the first leg for a 13k lead, Mark knew that nothing less than playing the table out would see him into the Final. He was on 9k when he left himself a ball right at the back, behind the 10 hole. He made the shot and the cue ball went down the 20, but the object ball squeezed across to behind the left hand 30. With Jon Bamsey out of his chair, Mark whacked a load of right-hand side on the next shot - and got the break back! He carried on relentlessly towards his target after this, and finished with a thousand to spare. With such a fine line between success and failure, you had to feel some sympathy for the losing semi-finalists. Well done though to the Stadium duo.

Yes excellent day, well run and good from my point of view to see two old adversaries and team mates in the final. Both played well all day. Congrats to Keith Sheard for awin in the plate, eventually getting to play his favourite table.
