I have spoken to Dave Alder who is in the middle of a family crisis and will be in possession of the draw before the evening is out.
There is no need for concern as contingency plans will be made.
Dave Alder is the one who needs cutting some slack at present.

Nigel has scheduled the tournament, which I now have. Dave Alder will be made aware of this today. It's then up to him as to whether he goes with it or waits to see if Peter Farrelly supplies one.
Re Ian Lelliott, this is the second tournament in a row that entries have got lost in the post. It might be an idea to start posting entry lists on here as a double check for tournament organisers. Hard copy entries and fees would still have to go in via the normal method to be valid, but it would provide organisers with a check list so that action can be taken before the all important draw.

Important I think to hold some pleasures back in life to enjoy later, rather than to indulge in sheer hedonism. ;) ;) Enough's as good as a feast, I say.... ;D

Sav This was the exact point that John Addley made earlier, which I thought was a good one. Surrey will pioneer the idea next April/May if you like. The standard form idea though was not a practical one, as (quote Sav) "every county is an island" - and some counties might want to advertise a sponsor's name etc.

Dave Alder is now aware of the availability of the reserve schedule and Ian Lelliott's entry not arriving.
As PF has been asked to produce a schedule Dave will wait for that to appear tomorrow as expected, should PF still wish to produce one as well. If not Nigel's schedule will be published Thursday or earlier if PF does not wish to produce one.

Hello Everybody
It's me here, The perpitrator of all the hassle with this years Berks Open. I thought i should just try and put the record straight so there can be no more confusion.
The closing date was set for the 28th August which as you know is only two weeks before the event. I made the mistake of not taking into account the time it takes to compile the 'Start Times'. Peter has always helped me when ever he can and I have always been extreemely grateful for what he has done. I have been at fault and not Peter.
My workload always increases two fold between the months of June - September and therefore find it difficult to concentrate on Bar Billiards.
I am at present the secretary of the Reading & District Summer League. At our last AGM I tried to step down from this role but was unable to do so as there was no one to take my place,
I also have many children whom I hardly see.
I have the forth coming ALL ENGLAND event to deal with. I also have the added pressure of running these events (as I'm sure Nigel would appreciate). It will not be easy.
Added to this is my own heartbreak. I have over recent weekends been traveling from Reading to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro (Cornwall). Knowing that sooner rather that later I will lose someone very dear to me. I am generally a private person and keep these sort of things inside, Unfortunately because it is a part of the problem I needed to say it.
I will carry on reguardless to make sure all tournaments run on time.
I just wanted to set things right and ask that any indifference be aimed at me and not Peter.
I hope this will be the end of the matter and the discussions closed
Thank you all
Dave Alder

Dave, Sure nobody making personal aims at yourself or Peter, but just frustrations at not being able to make arrangements. Just wish you all the best in difficult times and pass on my personal sympathies to you and hope you can make the best of what seems a nightmare period. Take care and hopefully see you Sunday.

Reading through the posts here, I can see no mention of a "ban threat"........ most of the comments seem to be thanking Pete for his work and stating that the organisers seem to be making his job harder than usual on this occasion. ::) However, it would seem that Pete is unable to provide the draw or start times here to enable people to make any arrangements for travelling etc this weekend....... >:( >:( :-X I have e-mailed Dave Alder this morning asking him to send me any information that he can and will follow that up with a phone call later if he doesn't reply. I will post up any information that he sends me that may help other people. Obviously you were not able to read the "ban threat" because it was sent to me in a personal message. It was not published here publicly. My annoyance is several fold: There was no indication in the PM what exactly had caused offence and I was only enlightened on receiving an email from Clive. The offending paragraph was referring to my own well known unforgiving attitude, not to Mark and should not have caused any offence. There are several other weird responses above, and I will not respond to all others for fear of another threat, but I cannot quite understand why entrants to the Opens cannot arrange things like travel, child and dog sitters on the understanding that they will be playing sometime around the regular start time, usually 10.0, and will then always be there on time, even if they are not playing till noon. Most players will know that only around 3 years ago, NOBODY knew the draw until they arrived at the opens as it was never produced in advance. I have to point out that I NEVER ever said that the schedule would not be done in time. Once I had finally had time to do it on Tuesday morning, and about to deliver them to Dave as promised, I then find that an "alternative" schedule had been arranged behind my back. I wish I had been told, as a matter of courtesy, and then I could have concentrated on other far more important things. Even putting that offer on the forum would not have had any affect on me as I was not logging on that week. So we now have a volunteer to work out Open schedules from next year. Great, carry on, with my blessings! One last major comment which was provided by Dave when he realised how his late draw had affected the forum: IF the draw had been made on time and therefore been provided to me a week or so earlier, there would have been several top players not entered in this year's Berks Open, one of which was Mark Brewster.

Congratulations to Nigel on his victory yesterday, beating Gareth (on tricky Table 6) in the final.
Dave France made it a good day for Sussex by winning the Plate against John Bamsey, with Jean also winning the Ladies high break as well. ;D
The organisers did a great job on the day to make sure that all ran smoothly...... good venue for watching the games, just a shame that the bar didn't open until 12 then closed at 7pm (before the Finals even started!) and there was NO hot food or even tea or coffee available at the venue at all. :(

I can only assume that Pete has no young children or dogs that he has to make arrangements for...... ::) To enlighten him then - The children are actually easier to arrange than the dogs (in our case anyway), as you just have make sure that they are with ex wives / husbands for the day in question. 8-) But dog minders need to be booked several weeks (or even months!) in advance. Bookings are usually made on a daily rate (usually about £40.00 per dog) which covers an 8 hour period (typically 9am to 5pm) with extra hours outside these charged at about £8.00 per hour, per dog...... although for 2 dogs we can get a deal of £60.00 "per day" and £12.00 per hour for both thereafter. Since, in my case, I always hope to reach the Quarter-Finals (of the Plate of course! ;)) you have to book for them to be looked after until about 9pm. For us to have arrived in Reading for an "assumed" 10am start, we would need to leave Brighton at 8am, to allow for any traffic problems. To then arrive and find that we were not due to play until 12.45pm, would effectively have cost us an additional £36.00 that we didn't need to have paid!! >:( Pete can possibly therefore understand now why we wanted to have the schedule & draw available as soon as possible..... and why I made the offer (to HELP HIM!) since I believed that he was "unable" to provide this due to either being banned, or other pressures in his life. However, I received nothing from him during the course of the week. >:( :-X :-X :-X My sincere thanks therefore go to those that did do the schedule and made it available so quickly under the circumstances, it helped us greatly. 8-) ;D

I also accept your "sincere thanks" as it was ME who did the schedule (inc one error made, probably due to the pressure I was being put under by a few people here). As I said, I did not refuse to do it, just asked not to be hassled after the draw had been made so late and receiving it when I had 3 full days planned. Perhaps, therefore, you could make sure your contact details are made available to Pete Ewins, Dave Alder, Brian Daniels, Andy Haines, Bob Chapple, Pete Sainsbury and any other Open organisers (e g Surrey) that I have not mentioned. Do you see the problem there? Just to put the record straight, Pete, you were NOT banned from using the Forum last week. Any so-called ban was self-imposed. You were asked to put a certain matter straight, which you did. It is unfortunate that misunderstandings and squabbles can sour relationships and get in the way of the bar billiards. The main point now on this thread should not be to pick over old sores, but to congratulate the organisers and the winners of this event. So well done to Nigel and Gareth for taking the top two prizes, and for Oxfordshire for taking most of the rest. And to Ian Lelliott, soon to go under the surgeon's knife, for managing a quarter-final place. And well done too to Dave Alder for presiding over the event and indeed to Pete for the playing schedule which seemingly helped it to run smoothly.

Well done to Nigel and bad luck Gareth. Another good day that I must reflest Dave Ingrams thoughts that shame no hot drinks and in fact a rather off hand attitude from the bar even when I explained my reasons for need ing said drinks.
Sorry I had to miss end of day, but against solid advice turned out and realised during day it was probably very pig headed of me ( so unusual). As usual a high standard set and tables certainly offering varied challenges, my apologies to Milko for leaving as seems he indeed needed his special scorer.

Thanks for the congrats guys. Hard luck to Gareth in the final, I think i benefitted greatly from wining the toss on a very tough table. Carrying a 2k lead from leg 1, I really didn't think about trying to go off with enough to put the match out of Gareth's reach but managed to reach 6k, before hitting one 50-20 split so thin I hit the 100 but luckily missed the peg. I knew at that point I was riding my luck and came off.
Well to to Dave France for winning the plate.
Many thanks to Dave Alder (and helpers) for their hard work, Dave has got some tough weeks coming up with all the All England events in Reading, and I think we should all support him as much as possible as this will be his first time running them
Oh and many thanks to Keith Sheard for the post tournament entertainment. I hope you missus didn't give you too hard a time when you got home ;)

Despite my objections to the threat, I WILL wholeheartedly accept my punishment like a man and not log on until next Sunday at the earliest. The only problem now being, when will the forum users learn their times? So, it seems the initial question has now had the exact opposite affect to what it was trying to do, apart from also taking that extra bit of time fielding this flak. Anyway, I have taken a very brief look at the draw and it seems that there are very few 1st matches not including either a Kent or Sussex player. As Dave has opted for a 10.30 start, if nothing else is heard from him, the players from these counties will not be playing before 11.15, but that is the best I can say. But no volunteers to take over these tasks yet? Pete, if you are unable to work out the schedule for any reason, please send me the information you have received from the organisers and I will be happy to arrange the times and then post everything on the Forum? So yes....... you do have a volunteer! ;) I would have thought that it was obvious that my offer to help you was made on the basis that it was for THIS Tournament........ as you stated that you would accept your punishment (presumably to be banned?) and would not log on again until Sunday. >:(
