A great day of bar billiards once more.
Congratulations to Jim Millward, who won this event for the first time (he was runner-up in 2005). Jim beat Phil Collins of Oxon in the Final.
The Plate was won by Pete Sainsbury of Kent, who beat event organiser Jean Brackenridge in the final.
The day saw some good drama, mainly from the 'group of death'. Firstly, Kevin Tunstall won through against Keith Sheard after the latter had spilled a 22k break. An earlier effort of 21k by Keith was sufficient to take the highest break prize for the day.
In the ensuing round, K.T. fell to an irrepressible Kevin Hall who managed his first-ever 20k break to overhaul a daunting target and take the second leg and the match.
But it was Surrey Open winner Nigel Senior who survived the Group of Death, beating young Kev. Nigel in turn was overcome by Dave Reeves in the quarter-finals.
In the top half of the draw, Steven Sheard won through to face Phil Collins in the Semi-final, and it was Phil who triumphed in a well-contested match.
Main Competition (Last 16 onwards) Henry Brooks (Sus) bt Dave France (Sus) Steven Sheard (Oxon) bt Mark James (Sus) Simon Ellam (Oxon) lost to Richard Wooton (Sus) Phil Collins (Oxon) bt Mark Brewster (Kent) Dave Reeves (Sus) bt Nick Brown (Sus) Nigel Senior (Sus) bt Kevin Hall (Sus) Chris Newson (Hants) lost to Terry Molloy (Sus) Gary Johnson (Oxon) lost to Jim Millward (Sus)
Quarter-finals: Henry Brooks lost to Steven Sheard; Richard Wooton lost to Phil Collins; Dave Reeves beat Nigel Senior; Terry Molloy lost to Jim Millward.
Semi-finals: Steven Sheard lost to Phil Collins; Dave Reeves lost to Jim Millward.
FINAL: Jim Millward beat Phil Collins.
I will leave others to provide other thank-yous, but suffice it for me to say that Jean Brackenridge (ably assisted by hubby Alan) once again takes much credit for running the day so smoothly for the 108 who took part.

Well done to Jim for winning his first Sussex open, a truly class player who can come out after months away from the game and take a competitive competition like this :o
So many great performances, especially from Mr Reaper, getting his first 20k to knock me out after I set him 19k.
A very well run day by Jean, Alan & Nigel. A perfect venue for this great competition :)

i would like to add my appreciation of the Guernsey contingent who supported the event in force - and who must have helped boost the bar profits ! :P Hope you enjoyed your weekend, lads, and made it back to the 'friendlier isle' safe and sound. ;) A couple of them were still supporting the bar at the Roffey Club while playing "31" with a few of the Horsham lads, Colleen, Bill and myself until about 11.30pm last night..... glad to report that a number of 10p's found themselves going from the Horsham boys into their pockets (and ours!) to go towards the hefty bar bill! ;D 8-) Hopefully, the flight back to Guernsey wasn't too early for Champs & Oge...... and Micky was able to get up for work at 5.30am! :o As Tommo says..... fantastic to see the Guernsey players over here, look forward to meeting up with some of you again in Jersey later this year and all of you at the Guernsey Open next year..... when I won't be driving! :-[ 8-)

Congratulations Jim on winning this very keenly contested competition. ;D Many thanks for a superbly run Open must go to Jean Alan & Nigel ;D ;D As well as all the many other helpers along the way. Congrats. to Dave and Colleen on their one year anniversary :-* Thanks for the stamps Chris - they will be used - hope that doesn't mean you won't be back to Guernsey. Thanks for the tip on Mr Li's Chinese Gareth. :P Had a superb meal there with the two Tels and Bob, washed down by a few bottles of Rose. We were all a bit quiet at breakfast this morning as three days of drinking were taking their toll. :P We all made it back safely to Guernsey and some of us even made an appearance back at work, despite the jetlag/alcohol poisoning. Looking forward to meeting up with loads of you in Jersey in November. ;) And a final thanks to the legendary Micky Fairs & Co. who provided good company throughout the weekend.

What a great (and tiring weekend)!
Thanks to Jean and Alan for all the work they did running the weekend, And thanks to Dave, Colleen, KT for helping with the tables setups - 12 tables are a lot to setup and overall the quality was pretty good.
Well done to Jim on his first title won in England for many years - the last one being back in 1997 when he won the Alternative Rules. A very well deserved win too - he made big scores all day and beat a very in form Phil Collins in the final. And no we don't believe you when you keep saying you are past it (something he said a few times at the start of the day!)
Well done to Pete Sainsbury in the plate, he reckons he has been in more plate finals than anybody....maybe a stat I will work out for the next programme, I think a certain G.Lloyd will be up there!
Also it was great to see the Guernsey lads over in full force, and glad to hear you made it back safe and sound,
And thanks Chris....i had to try my best to beat you! 2,000 was a big lead on table 1, I was just relieved to get a decent break on it in leg 2, it was tough!
A great venue as well and look forward to going back next year....it would be great to get 108 players again, I thought there was a great buzz in the room.
So thats 5 different winners and 10 different finalists this year. Great to see a lot of players playing so well, competition for the Grand Prix places in going to be fierce this year. Looking forward to the Kent Classic now.....

Nigel misunderstood me, I did not say I have been in more plate finals than anyone else only that I have been in a lot of plate finals considering how many I have taken part in. I think I have played in about 12 or 14 and been in 6 finals.
Well done to SCBBA on a well run competition and well done to Jim on winning the tournament
