Well said Milko and Warrior. Great credit due to Pete Ewins and Tony Willis for a professional job in running the event, and such a good programme to keep - something we don't always get.
Big up to Young Dude for his Semi-Final achievement - could be the first of many! 8-) Congratulations too to Champion Steven and also to Mossy in the Plate. 8-) 8-)
Highlight for me was two games played by FastTrackPhil: the first against Nigel, where Nigel played out the second leg for 19k but finished 2k short - a new experience for Nigel "not being fast enough". :D The second, against Sir KT, who having won the toss and decided to play first, scored an immaculate 20,600. Phil struggled to maintain the pace needed and got out of position a couple of times, but retrieved it each time and picked up the pace halfway through. He was level as the bar went and finished with another amazing 21k. :o Perfect play throughout.

I would like to add my thanks to Peetee, Dennis, Barbelman, Jenny & all the other organisers on a well run day. A good test of tables, certainly plenty of variety.
Congrats to Steven on his 2nd Open win, commiserations to Phil (who looked unbeatable on the day). Well done to Ricky on his highest placing in an Open so far and to Gary for his semi.
On a personal note, 3 runouts and still not good enough :o :-/ Roll on Bournemouth ;D

For the record, here is a note I kept of the closing stages (last 16 onwards):
Geoff Powell lost to Gary Johnson; Bert Lovegrove lost to Bill Kerr; Simon Ellam lost to Dennis Atkins; Steven Sheard bt Lee Radford; Kevin Tustall bt Jon Bamsey; Nigel Senior lost to Phil Collins; Ricky Dewdney bt Mark Brewster; Mark Trafford lost to Curt Driver.
Quarter-Finals Gary Johnson bt Bill Kerr; Dennis Atkins lost to Steven Sheard; Kevin Tunstall lost to Phil Collins; Ricky Dewdney bt Curt Driver.
Semi Finals Gary Johnson lost to Steven Sheard Phil Collins bt Ricky Dewdney
Final Steven Sheard bt Phil Collins
The full transcript of the tournament will be available on the AEBBA website in due course. For the uninitiated, this will show all scores for Cup and Plate - and some are impressive! Also, any National Ranking Points which accrued.

Thanks for that Tommo, As you say there were some excellent scores and comebacks. There were six breaks over 20K (Phil Collins x 3, Mark Brewster x 2 and Kevin Tunstall) and seventeen over 15K. The pick of the games were Geoff Powell chasing Leon Beer’s 15460 score with a 16900 run out at 10.15 in the morning (!!), Nigel Senior failing to catch Phil Collins in the last 16 (21280-19700), Kevin Tunstall overhauling Jon Bamsey’s 15210 with 18100 on the tricky table 6 and Phil scoring 21460 in reply to Kevins 20800 on table 2. :o The final was comparatively lower scoring on table six as the table seemed to trouble the players more than it had in previous rounds.
The spreadsheet is with Nigel now and should be on the AEBBA website in due course if anyone wants more detail.
cheers Tony

Someone left their Oxford Open quarter finalist trophy at the Didcot Conservative Club on Saturday - presumably one of Bill Kerr Sussex, Curt Driver Kent, Kevin Tunstall Sussex or Dennis Atkins Oxon.
I have it at home but I can bring it to Bournemouth if someone gets in touch....
cheers Tony

It could be Dennis, I remember giving out trophies to Kevin, Curt & Bill. Pete Dennis also had his trophy, I remember that he put it up proudly on a shelf behind Table 7 so it may be his if that's where it was found...? ;D I will be seeing Bill tonight and will ask him if he has his trophy.... ;) Dave
