Quote: Not what I want to hear after spending the last three days Google-checking the 700 venues listed on the AEBBA map.
Let me explain the process...... 1. Enter keywords into Google to get the venue summary to appear on right-hand side of screen: 2. If all appears normal, go on to the next one. 3. If nothing appears, smell a rat and try different keywords or investigate any press articles that may show some light on reason for the absence.
Sometimes a red bar appears above the summary, stating either "Temporarily closed" or "Permanently closed". 4. If "temporarily closed", give the benefit of the doubt that it may re-open after the 4-weeks' enforced lockdown. 5. If "permanently closed" report on here with request to Sav to remove from the map.
For 5), Google provides an invitation to challenge the information thus: (eg) "The Winds of Change is permanently closed. If that's wrong, you can suggest an edit."
I have to give credence to what Google throws up, otherwise the whole exercise would be pointless.
Accepted though that not everything is 100% reliable in the changing world that we live in, but Google have covered themselves by adding that disclaimer.
I will be going through the whole lot again next spring, when no doubt some of the 4)s will sadly have turned into 5)s.

Sorry Clive but Google are one of the worst for investigating, I reported the one star review I mentioned and heard nothing back, I ended up reporting it daily for around 3 weeks, it took them 3 years to remove it. I get requests to review places all the time, generally done as a list of questions, one of which give the (multiple choice) option of 'Closed Permanently' I could click that on any number of premises knowing that it will take them possibly years to correct it. I think as far as Winds of Change are concerned you are probably correct, I got them impression that the owners 'face didn't fit' in the village, nothing concrete just reading between the lines.

If you can provide proof next month that the Winds of Change are still trading, Q, then I'll take that at face value (over-riding Google) and we'll restore it to 'active'.
We are reliant (and always have been) on members' reports on actual visits - otherwise Google is the fount of all knowledge.

Your Cornish roving reporter will only report when able I haven't been outside the door (except doctors or hospital) for about 4 months, I do fancy a little drivette so I'll have a go when lockdown allows & I feel up to it.

No pressure...... still awaiting to hear the fate of many of our local tables especially around the Billingshurst area. Give my regards to the Edwardses if you happen to run into them.

Good spot, Sav, and that solves the argument rather neatly: So the Winds Of Change had a refurbishment in 2018 and is now the Frog and Bucket. The website even shows a distant pic of the table (just visible in the other bar):
Frog & Bucket (ex-Winds OF Change), South Petherwin, Launceston, Cornwall PL15 7LP

Well for starters I wouldn't be too happy - simply because I'd lose my websites, which they host for free.

Slight change of subject... the local village Snooker Club had an open day today so I went & had a look, 2 beautiful full size tables (and the guy running it said he'd love to have a bar billiards table as well (I've already seen the perfect spot), but the upshot is this, I keep getting reminded why I like the Cornish way of life... I met the guys for the first time today, had a frame of snooker with one of them...
... and was handed a key to the premises and the alarm code!!!!
If I want to join I have to transfer £20 (annual subs), now what happens if I decide NOT to join? doesn't really matter cos for £20 a year what's NOT to like, but the trustworthiness of these people, can you imagine the same thing happening in Crawley (or any other Sussex, or perhaps ANYWHERE villages/towns)

It gets me walking, I'd forgotten how big a full size snooker table is. Anyway I had a game and only lost by one point, my opponent potted the black (the only ball he potted all game), the rest were potted by me, trouble is I gave him so many points in fouls that the 7 for the black clinched it.

Sorry to hear that Q. Looks like the Frog & Bucket is your best bet for a game of b-bs from now on.

Frog & Bucket have now sold their table to a 'private buyer' so that's another of the Cornish tables gone.
