Well we've known about the Newshouse as a bar billiards 'hotspot' for several years now..... www.castlerockbrewery.co.uk/pubs/newshouse/.....but before that it was the Steamboat Inn at Trent Lock, Long Eaton which attracted our attention (see the early posts on this thread). But we were told recently that sadly the Steamboat replaced the bar billiards with pool. There has to our knowledge been no league in Nottinghamshire - well not in the last forty years, anyway. As for players, we know of two ex-pats living in Notts, Jed Long (ex-Sussex) and Phil Griffin (ex-Bucks). Both turn up to play in Opens occasionally. tommo

Thanks for your update, Littlemark. I have deleted the Cow & Plough and the Grainstore from the AEBBA Map, and added the Chandlers Arms: good looking table as you say and a good old country pub. Have also amended the list of venues contained within this thread. All reports are gratefully received. tommo Pleased to announce that the Grainstore in Oakham has brought it's table out of storage, re-covered and refurbished it at great expense, and as of last week re-installed it in the bar. fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/t31.0-8/10575156_10152817737004803_1211453082423351904_o.jpg

You mentioned that Nottingham had about 12 players. That would be enough for two teams. The York League was originally a series of derby matches, so it could kick something off having some regular games.

It seems that Leicestershire had a ten-year presence (1983 - 1993) as a participating county at National level, as these AEBBA minutes from the early 1980's suggest:

The group of dedicated players no longer play on Mondays. Vat and Fiddle no longer has their table, leaving only the Newshouse as the sole table actually in Nottingham.

The ANBBA is nothing to do with us! They're a group that used to play in the Newshouse but stopped about two years ago.

Thanks, both.
I'll change the links on my local websites to the new one.
So bar billiards lives on at the Newshouse.....maybe one day another pub nearby will get a table.
That's how the Norwich League started, as recently as ten years ago with just the Kings Head. Now it's a going concern.

Green is league, yellow is non league but confirmed. I was going to add a note. I did want the list to be a separate thread as it being right down the bottom of this thread means it's much harder to find

Thanks Joe.
Position is a problem we have on all these table site threads after Tommo's temporary departure from the forum.
I have started a policy of copying the core list to a post from Tommo's new account but you will find there is a marker at the start of the thread to highlight the position of the list, unfortunately a direct link is not possible.
However this is resolved will be up to Tommo as I desire consistency across the forum. One suggestion I might tender would be to have a thread just for the list and a separate thread for updates. That way the lists would always be accessible and easily amendable if a new controller takes over.
Similarly all updates on the list need dating upon entry/update, the policy of yellow font indicate recently updated is entirely misleading after a few years! Tommo's decision.

Yes, willing to continue the monitoring of b-b venues in the UK.
Sav has suggested that from now on we run two threads on each - one showing a master list (only) and a separate one where findings and visits can be posted. Much like we're already doing under 'London'.

Will there be a way for local people to keep the list updated? Our idea is for it to work like on the London section. A thread for the 'master list' which is essentially 'locked' - and the traditional style thread where anyone can post their discoveries, and lodge reports on their visits. In your case (Notts) there is no reason why you couldn't be the one to maintain it, especially as you have come up with a design which I will probably follow !

Yes I think the "two separate threads" idea is worth giving a whirl. Suggest I copy and paste all the old master lists to new threads that I will then be able to maintain. Then a sweep up operation (by mods) behind me, deleting the original post which is then rendered a duplication, and locking the newly created thread - which I will subsequently request to be unlocked whenever I have some work to do on it.
Sounds complicated, and much work in the preparation, but will subsequently become a doddle once more !
