“Entry Forms for the 2011 Billingshurst Jubilee Team Knockout are now out - close date for entries 4th May, £5 to enter.”
So says Peter Gibbs, and I made a point of asking him tonight if this competition is ‘Open’, as two teams from the Horsham League (Dun Horse and Plough) were admitted last year.
The answer is “Yes – to any team in Sussex and/or Surrey.”
Now, I know there are many like me who look back with fondness to the old Horsham Festival Cup and regret its demise. It attracted entries from both counties and one year an amazing 64 teams took part!
This is slightly different, they play 3 singles and 2 pairs, but it’s a good competition nonetheless as it could appeal to teams of differing standards: You can enter a team under any name you like, much the same as it was with the Horsham competition. And there is a Plate too!
Play will be throughout the summer months, one round per month, with the Final taking place in September. All matches will be played on Billingshurst – and possibly Horsham also – League venues.
Please register your interest on this thread by 29th April – if there are any ‘takers’ I will publish an entry form to put you in touch with Peter.
Clive T.
Interested 'extra' teams Dun Horse (Mannings Heath) Mill House 'Dragons' Fountain (Littlehaven)
Plough, PlumptonChailey Green Gardeners, Portslade New Sussex Hotel, Lancing Swan, Worthing Stout House, Horsham Stout House 'Z'

Having not played in this before, a couple of quick questions to clarify a few things about.... MATCHES CONSIST OF 5 GAMES, (3 SINGLES & 2 DOUBLES). A PLAYER MAY PLAY IN BOTH A SINGLES & A DOUBLES GAME. BREAKS DECIDED ON TOSS OF A COIN, WINNER HAS CHOICE OF 1,3 & 5, OR 2 & 4. LOSING TEAMS WILL ENTER A PLATE COMPETITION. PROPOSED DATES FOR NEXT ROUNDS. 6th JULY, 3rd AUGUST 24th AUGUST All results to Peter Gibbs. GOOD LUCK TO ALL ! Peter has sent me a scorecard template, and I will try to put that up as well. What order are the games played in..... singles first, or doubles? Are the players for each game nominated, or drawn? Is it even breaks in each game, or does one team actually get 3 breaks and the other team only 2, or is it just even breaks in the last game - assuming that is singles? Do teams need to contact the venues where the matches are due to be played, or will the organisers notify the venues? What time do the matches start.... 8.30pm? Please could somebody also e-mail a copy of the scorecard to participating teams that have not played in Billingshurst League before? Many thanks, in anticipation. ;D

Q) What order are the games played in..... singles first, or doubles? A) THREE SINGLES, THEN THE TWO DOUBLES. Q) Are the players for each game nominated, or drawn? A) DRAWN BEFORE THE START OF THE MATCH. Q) Is it even breaks in each game, or does one team actually get 3 breaks and the other team only 2, or is it just even breaks in the last game - assuming that is singles? A) ONE TEAM GETS 3 BREAKS AND THE OTHER ONLY 2. TOSS FOR CHOICE OF 1,3 & 5 OR 2 & 4. BUT LEVEL BREAKS THROUGHOUT.Q) Do teams need to contact the venues where the matches are due to be played, or will the organisers notify the venues? A) IT'S A SET NIGHT, SO PETER WILL HAVE NOTIFIED THE VENUES. I WILL PREPARE THE TABLE FOR THE SWSC A V PLOUGH P/G. Q) What time do the matches start.... 8.30pm? A) YES, 8.30PM Q) Please could somebody also e-mail a copy of the scorecard to participating teams that have not played in Billingshurst League before? A) PETER HAS ALREADY DONE THIS VIA E-MAIL. YOU CAN ALSO COPY THE SCANNED COPY I'VE PUT UP ON THIS THREAD.

Have also had a copy from Peter. 2 things, we went half way through one year's competitons playing 3 breaks & 2 breaks & then met Tony Temple & Mick Johnson & they informed me it was equal breaks it may be worth clarifying with Peter as the instructions do not make it clear.
The Preliminary round on the 8th June is the same date as Mid Sussex AGM so will be a problem for our team & presumably The Mill House.

Okay, it's been 10+ years since we last entered, in 1999/2000 as the Green Dragon, hence our name, and times change........
Tony Temple will be speaking with authority when he says 'Even breaks throughout' - he being Billingshurst Chairman - so we'll take that as gospel, and I have added a note above accordingly.
One thing we don't want to do is start flooding Peter with e-mail queries, as he's already set out the guidelines for the competition with clarity.

Southwater SC B 2, Mill House Dragons 3
A really good match with see-sawing fortunes, Jeff and Tom avenging singles defeats by taking the first doubles, and Barry avenging his - but not without considerable help from daughter the aptly-named Victoria, playing her first competitive game. 8-) 8-) 8-)
Chris Purkiss 2920, Barry Timson 1820 Jeff Raine 2090, Mick Holmwood 4630 Tom Darkins 1480, tommo 5050 Jeff & Tom 2610, tommo & margo 1920 Chris P & Gordon Ling 1130, Barry & Victoria Timson 2730
Many thanks to the Fountain Landlady for providing some nice food, and to the Silver Fox for preparing the table, a bit difficult down the back but definitely playable.

Stout House 'Z' 3 Alfold SC 1
A good night and thank you to Sue at the Blue Ship for the food, very tasty.
Dorsal versus Dave Slater for the first game, Mr Finn in decent form to claim the game
Richard versus Trevor for the second, a close game won somehow by Trevor
RP versus Rob for the third, Rob nudged in front only for Rick to find his finals night form to storm back to take the game.
Dorsal and Richard versus Dave S and Trevor, no contest, the Stout House duo stormed into the lead to claim the match.
Sure RP will have the scores somewhere.
Cheers
