Very versatile artist, Billy Joel. Wifey's favourite.
Scissor Sisters: a few Sundays ago I sat down to watch a couple of minutes of their Trafalgar Square concert - and remained glued to the set for the whole hour. Brilliant !
Am I alone in thinking that Jake Shears and our distinguished forum owner Glenn Chubb were separated at birth ? ;D

Glenn Chubb was obviously separated at birth, but from what I don't know????!!!!????
When I saw Jake for the 1st time, I wondered why he looked so familiar......

Of bands - my favourites would have to be Pink Floyd and Radiohead. Soloists - for me it has to be Dido. Since she has to be the most beautiful person I have ever seen. (Apart from my wife, obviously!)

Your wife is up against Dido, mine is up against Cathy Dennis. Both are fine artistes and multi-millionairesses.

You didn't fancy Wishbone Ash at Chiddingfold last Wednesday then Tommo?
Excellent performance with a new set list

Sounded good but twice in one year suffices for me. ;) Got my annual Hammill fix a couple of weeks ago. 8-) Caravan didn't do any gigs at all this year, the man on the sticks has been unwell, but may tour next year. :-/ A Van der Graaf concert in the offing for next spring, three-man line-up only though as David Jaxon has officially left the band. :)

I went to the Half Brick in Worthing on Friday to see Martin turner's Wishbone Ash
Great concert considering drummer had suffered a broken collar bone early in November playing football of all things.
Enjoy the concert at Sutton on Friday tommo!.

Glad you enjoyed Martin Turner's version of Wishbone, Dave. They were brilliant last year at Sutton and I would have gone again but the wife wasn't feeling up to it. Never mind, there will be other opportunities I'm sure. Changing the subject, have just seen The Feeling - Horsham's finest ! - on Top Of The Pops 2. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_FeelingI'm also keen on Keane - who hail from Hastings. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KeaneDamn! That's given away one of the answers to the Piano Quiz. And the song Donovan was singing on TOTP2 has given away the answer to one of the Musical Instruments. ;)

I just had to add to this thread, being a big music fan!
It's great to see bands like Wishbone Ash, Caravan, Van Der Graaf etc getting an airing.
I'll put my mark against those, and the obvious ones (Zep, Floyd etc), but I thought I'd add one or two more obscure ones to see if they ring any bells.
How about Be Bop Deluxe, Camel, Groundhogs - anyone remember them?

Hi Martin, Well of course there's an inextricable link between Caravan and Camel, through the Sinclairs. Somehow Caravan have been able to survive by replacing them when they left with brilliant musicians. It's a pity that Caravan's last gig was the 2005 Isle of Wight Festival - drummer Coughlan has developed painful arthritis but is the powerhouse of the band, and we wait in hope that there may be an autumn gig this year - ideally the during Canterbury festival. On the Van Der Graaf front, by sheer coincidence a newsletter has gone up today on : www.sofasound.com...in which is mentioned the release today of a double CD (called "Real Time") of the Reunion concert at the Royal Festival Hall in 2005. That was a momentous occasion, and I already have my tickets for next month's appearance of the band (as a three-piece combo) at the Barbican next month (16th April).

At last, Camel get a mention. One Andy Latimer on guitar and the late, lamented Pete Bardens on keyboards came up with some truly inspirational prog rock. Rumoured to be an inspiration for these chaps. www.soundclick.com/pro/view/03/default.cfm?BandID=631650 that fine looking chap on guitar went on to become the Chairan of the WSBBL, you know! (Pic is more than 20 years old :-[)

I've had a quick look at your link, and I fully intend to catch up on you when I get a bit of time, Steve.
Prog Rock is my bag. I deserted heavy metal round about the time of Guns'N'Roses.
So you're the Chichester Sound as opposed to the Canterbury Sound !

Technically, the Wittering sound - but that would just be splitting hairs!
The music has never been massive in the UK, but Japan, Sweden, USA, South America...different matter.
Strange world. 8-) ;)

Have the Manics album, tis good. Thought we'd seen the best of the Welsh lads, but apparently not.
Nina Persson is the co-singer on the single.

Well, not really in my top 50 of favourite bands, but last night I took Margo to see Amen Corner at the Boom Boom Club, Sutton. £10 a ticket seemed reasonable to see an authentic 5-hit band with three original members (bassist, drummer and one of the saxophonists). But no Andy Fairweather-Lowe. I wasn't disappointed. The lead singer is a cheeky scouser (kept thrusting his crotch at the dancing groupies at the side of the stage !) with a versatile vocal range. The sax was a bit low key - I expected a bit more virtuosity and instrument waggling - but the bassist and the drummer were very good and the seven-man lineup included a wet-behind-the-ears lead guitarist, trumpet, and organ/synthesiser. In the two hours they were on stage they covered a plethora of other peoples hits from around 1967. We got A Whiter Shade of Pale and See Emily Play. Highlight was a version of Joe Cocker's With A Little Help From My Friends in which they threw everything in including the kitchen sink, and for which they deservedly got a standing ovation. Margo and I are just about getting our hearing back now. :o

Well tommo got the DVD of Keane's live concert at the O2 Arena, July 21st 2007, in his Christmas stocking: 21 fantastic tracks, not a bad'un amongst them.
Here's their most recent release, and in the concert there was a short introduction from Neil Hannon of Divine Comedy, who says it was inspired by the thoughts of a WW2 RAF Pilot in a poem :

Never mind, there will be other opportunities I'm sure. Coming up this very Friday at the Boom Boom club, Sutton. (The FC clubhouse at Gander Green Lane). Margo and I have got tickets. They are doing a complete performance of their 1972 album Argus. 8-)
