Funny you should say that, Roger We're watching Sounds of the 70's Part II right now and somehow "Wont Get Fooled Again" and "Brown Sugar" still sound fresh and exciting as does Bowie playing at the moment. Forty years later ! Contrast this with lunchtime's Top Of The Pops for 2013.....apart from not recognising most of it there was nothing of interest whatsoever !

Highlights of a stonking 2-hour set: Wishing Well Jean Genie You Really Got Me Mustang SallyRoll on 23rd Nov and the Malt Shovel. Saw my mate The Ferret and his band Borrowed Time again last night, this time at The Potters, Burgess Hill. (Strange clientele, I seemed to be the only person in the bar who wasn't heavily tattooed.)Good ferret-work (fret-work ?) on All Along The Watchtower and ZZ Top's Smart Dressed Man.

A fantastic show ! Strawbs on first, Dave Cousins a fantastic voice, highlight "Hangman and the Papist" (reduced me to tears). Carl Palmer plus a brilliant lead guitarist and another virtuoso on mellotron. Highlists "Jerusalem", a 30-minute long "Tarkus" and "Fanfare for the Common Man" including a 20-minute drum solo from Carl. Received a standing ovation.........could it get any better ? Martin plays Wishbone Ash, yes ! All the favourites, Throw Down The Sword, The King Will Come, Phoenix, Blowin' Free. The highlight Lady Jay. Standing ovation and two encores. Twice as good as when I last saw them, over 5 years ago: the two young guitarists have come into their own as regards showmanship (eg Chuck Berry's duckwalk; Shadows high kicks and Caravan duelling/faceups). Ears were still throbbing this morning.

I've got their first four albums on vinyl, Ian: Their first was sublime but I don't think any of their following work ever matched it. They disbanded all too early and I then followed a band called Kingdom Come who did very similar stuff. Led Zep's reunion concert of 2007 was momentous, their rendition of Kashmir was awesome. Yes, superlatives for one of my all-time favouritss. I'm also a big fan of Jethro Tull and still play their stuff which for me has stood the test of time. I recently acquired a re-issue set of Minstrel in the Galley which contains CDs, and DVDs, of both studio and live performances. RIP Cilla, by the way.

Was all set to see CAMEL on 10th June at Eventim Apollo (formerly known as Hammersmith Odeon ... had bought my ticket a year in advance. Andy Latimer taken ill, so concert cancelled. In fact poor Andy will need a major operation and several months to recover, so unlikely ever to tour again. Boo-hoo, was really looking forward to that. Eventim have provided a refund. As a consolation I have now booked to see Jethro Tull at Shepherds Bush Empire on 23rd May, tickets around the same price.

Saw Wishbone Ash, they were good at Ropetackle Shoreham a while ago. Played the entire Argus album

My third visit to S/Bush Empire (first two were for 1.VanDerGraafGenerator and 2.Little Boots and had to stand both times) ... this time I had a seat "up in the gods" albeit a rather uncomfortable one (bum still numb). Ian Anderson's voice has gone slightly but stood up to the loud stuff when it mattered. Did my three favourite tracks from their recent album The Zealot Gene, great versions of Bouree, and We Used To Know (plagiarised by The Eagles for Hotel California) the 10 minute epic Dark Ages from their Stormwatch album. And they saved the best till last with a new treatment of Aqualung with a long introduction, and Locomotive Breath as an encore. One of the best gigs that I've been to.
