Hi all,
I just wanted to make the BB community aware of what happened to me over Christmas.
Basically I became very ill indeed. At first my GP thought I had gastric flu and told me to rest... however I was much more seriously ill then that. I had a condition called 'Mycoplasma' which attacked my immune system and forced it to shut down. This then brought on a bought of double pneumonia.
I was admitted to hospital on Christmas day at which stage I was fighting for my life as the oxygen in my blood had reached such a critical level that it was clotting in the sample tube.
I was taken to intensive care where I was placed on a ventilator in order to force oxygen into my blood as fast as possible...
I am happy to say that after 9 days in hospital I was discharged and am now on a course of antibiotics to help restore my body to a fit state.
This was an incredibly scary situation for all my friends and family as you can imagine. I am lucky to be alive and without the care and attention from the staff at Worthing Hospital I would not be here to write you this message today.
There is alot of nasty bugs going around at the moment and coincidently Arthur Brewster was in the hospital at the same time as me with a chest infection... I believe Arthur is home now and doing well.
My advice to everyone is to please be careful over this winter season. Seriously consider getting the flu and pneumonia jabs as they could save your life.
I consider myself as a healthy 29 year old, and even I became victim to this life threatening condition... so please please please take care of yourselves and if you think your or a loved one is more ill then your GP has told you then don’t hesitate to call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47. They are there 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. It could save you or a loved ones life!!!
Best wishes to you all,
Jay (Mr) Shurey
