Merstham's GARY POWELL is the new Redhill Mens Singles Champion after beating Vernon Sparkes is a close contest at the Old Oak tonight.

Vernon carried a 1700 first-leg lead over into leg two, with his break to come, but could only start with 4000 before running out of position. Gary stepped in to take his chance and ran up a fine break of 8000. Vernon had one more chance to make up the deficit but the balls didn't fall kindly for him, and Gary was able to push his score up to an unassailable 9k. It is he, along with Ladies Singles Champion Denise Wills (who scored a 14k break in her final last week) who will represent Surrey at the All-England Championships at Reading later this year.
