Another team of wandering nomads as the Crawley Club is due to close its doors for good on 28th February 2012. The club has hosted a team or teams in the Crawley League and later the Horsham League in an unbroken stint since 1977.
A last-ditch attempt to pool resources with Crawley Conservative Club has fallen through and the club is now disposing of its assets.
The bar billiards team expressed their interest in purchasing the table which the club owns, and the good news is that they have been donated it for free !
However, there is now the problem of where the new proud owners are to install it......
Three Bridges Cricket club is a possibility, but the club is not open all the year round.
Handcross Social Club would love to have a team back playing there, but that also has an uncertain future, and the boys would rather stay in town.
So it looks like the favourites could be a former traditional venue like the Windmill or the Charcoal Burner.
Watch this space !

It is a great shame that after all these years the Crawley Club will be closing it's more than losing a Bar Billiard Venue.
I really hope the team find a new home to play from in the local area rather than doubling up somewhere else. There aren't many pubs in Crawley that will suit a team. The royal Oak in Ifield had a table in for a while & the Landlords were keen to have a team but it was mainly a dart pub if that could be sorted then it would be a great venue as it's not a modern town centre pub.

Quite so Ian,
speaking to Darrell on Thursday they had no idea where they were going to go.
The Con Club was an option for a while, but there would not really have been the space to manoeuvre if they were shoved into the snooker room. So they were glad in a way when that fell through.
And the TB Cricket Club could well just be used to store the table if they, say, went back to the Plough.
Surely there must be a nice edge-of-town pub willing to take a table and the extra revenue league matches would bring? It's not as if they would have to pay a £60pm rental for the privilege.
