Dave Ingram and Colleen Park enjoyed some great success in the Guernsey Pairs and the Guernsey Open this weekend. Mill House teammates Clive and Margo Thompson also took part, with a more modest performance, but enjoyed the weekend nonetheless.
From a lineup of 29 pairs from Guernsey, Jersey and the English mainland, Dave and Colleen made it to the Semi-Final, a tremendous achievement considering the rule that all shots are made fron the spot in the centre of the D. On the way, they knockout out several of Guernsey's finest players: in Round One Roy Le Page and Terry Kenny; in Round Two Bob Le Moignan and Tom Oliver; and in the Quarter-Finals Jason Le Morellec and Bob Chapple. But Oxford's Mark Trafford and Keith Hollis proved a bridge too far in the Semi, and they in turn succumbed to Brighton's Nigel Senior and Richard Wooton in the Final. Clive and Margo lost at the first hurdle, to Jersey's Michelle Baden and Jill Barbet.
Later on the same evening, Dave was part of the successful England team which defeated Guernsey in the International match.
On the Sunday the Guernsey Open was played and there was a Quarter-Final place for Dave in the Main Competition and the same for Clive in the Plate Competition, with Guernsey players accounting for both.
Dave hit some superb form, accounting for Berkshire and England's Paul Sainsbury in Round One and Littlehampton ace Dave Hampton in Round Two. This propelled him into the Last 16 stage where his next victim in a close struggle was Sussex county stalwart Ian Lelliott.
In the Quarter-final Dave faced the eventual winner Trevor Gallienne but it could just as easily have been Dave who went through, as he twice had a shot at the last 100 before Gallienne potted the 200 to win at the second attempt !
