Hi all
Please look for the dedicated Folder for Sussex Inter League posts.
I have combined/merged several threads and moved everything Inter league related into the one folder pending the final decision on placement of that folder.
If I have missed any threads from the move, or missed any that need 'merging' please let me know :)

FYI... Marcus Chipman (Brighton B) number needs to be corrected on the fixture list for the ease of other captains.

hi Sussex interleague Fans
It might be useful for the interleague rules on postponements to be posted here, I believe that a lack of 1st choice players is not a reason for postponement, if this is the case then there should be no reason for postponement other than for bad weather or special extenuating circumstances which will be subject to the approval of the interleague secretary only.
perhaps this needs to be written into the rules at the next AGM
With the busy BB schedule its very hard to re arrange matches especially for those who play in 3 leagues

It might be useful for the interleague rules on postponements to be posted here, Here is a copy of the current rules for the Inter League Home & Away Competition.... "MAIN" COMPETITION - HOME & AWAY BASIS 1. An Inter-League match will consist of 7 single games, the away team to have the breaks on games 2, 3, 5 & 6 and the home team to have the breaks on games 1, 4 and 7. In each of the seven games the home captain must nominate the home player first at the start of the game. Where two or more players in a team have the same surname the full Christian name shall be entered on the result card and the identity of the first named player be established before the second player be named. 2. Teams awarded two points for each match won and if level on points at the end of the season, games for and against to decide the winners. If still level aggregate score will decide the winners. 3. After each match, both team captains will be responsible for sending the result to the Inter-League Secretary, within 48 hours of the match being played. In addition, the Home Team Captain will, within 24 hours of the match being played, telephone the result to the Inter-League Secretary. Failure to meet both of the requirements of this Rule will result in the deduction of ONE POINT from the offending Team's points total. 4. Matches to be played on a Sunday or Monday as indicated on the fixtures list. If the two League representatives fail to agree to play on either of these two nights, both captains must contact the Inter League Secretary no later than the scheduled date for the match. Failure to fulfil this obligation will result in penalties to the offending team(s) 5. Teams failing to fulfil an Inter-League fixture other than owing to extreme circumstances such as bad weather shall have the match awarded against them 7 games to nil. 6. When a player has played for an interleague team they may only transfer to another team in a higher division. Once they have played for the team in the higher division they are not eligible to represent their league in a lower division during that season. 7. All Away Team Captains should contact the Home Team Captain no less than fourteen days prior to the date of the fixture to ascertain the venue and whether it will be Sunday or Monday the match will be played. 8. No more than 2 teams shall play from the same table. Passed 15-0 9. The first half of the fixtures must be completed by the first match of the second half of the season. All second half matches to be completed by the date of the of the last matchRules 5 and 9 relate to postponed or cancelled matches.

Hm....thoughts for discussion only not intending to make any proposals... yet
rule 3 is probably out of date and wants amending rule 4 is probably ok, should there be a special event, where a whole team may be absent,in which case the secretary should specify a single alternate date rule 9 probably wants amending to as 4 above
if rule 5 is adhered to then there wont be many (if any) alternate dates required

Referring to the bloody great elephant in the room......... SCBBA Rules are AFAIK not displayed anywhere for public view (correct me if I'm wrong); and I have not seen an updated hard copy since 2013. This leaves us at a slight disadvantage when reviewing with possible amendments in mind.

I believe that a lack of 1st choice players is not a reason for postponement, if this is the case then there should be no reason for postponement other than for bad weather or special extenuating circumstances Absolutely correct Colin, as shown in Rule 5 of the current rules. However, let us not make a mountain out of a molehill here. Every season there are inter league games that are postponed for various reasons and these are normally re-arranged within the time scale shown in Rule 9 and there are no problems. It has been several years since the SCBBA last had to award a win to any team, sadly we have had 2 matches this season. postponement other than for bad weather or special extenuating circumstances which will be subject to the approval of the interleague secretary only. My personal view is that offering extensions to teams outside of the times stated in Rule 9 should be a Committee decision rather than just the interleague secretary. The teams involved should certainly both contact the inter league secretary in the first instance and the Committee should then make the decision as to whether to allow the extension or not.... but that is just my personal viewpoint. perhaps this needs to be written into the rules at the next AGM Rule 5 already states that. With the busy BB schedule its very hard to re arrange matches especially for those who play in 3 leagues Yes, I agree, which is why teams need to have reserves and should be prepared to use them to play the games on the specified dates. If that is not possible, then the teams need to try to work out a mutually agreeable date to play the match as soon as possible. In my opinion, the team that did not cancel the match should offer 3 "reasonable dates" for the game to be played and the other team should have to accept one of those even if they are not able to field their normal full-strength team as they were the team that failed to play on the designated date. To explain what I mean by a "reasonable date".... this should not be a day when either of the Leagues involved have their normal League nights and would be best if it avoided other days when people play regularly in other Leagues. Effectively, I am probably saying that you are looking at another Sunday night since so many people now play on more than one night a week. As I stated above, this has been the first time for several years that the committee have had to award games to teams and, hopefully, it is not something that will become a regular problem. I feel that some of the problems this year have been caused by the late start of the Home & Away Competition in comparison to previous years and the difficulty in fitting the matches in around AEBBA and National Tournaments which really restricts the number of dates that are available. I will be asking the Committee to look at these problems at the end of the season and hopefully we can all try to avoid them in future.

Referring to the bloody great elephant in the room..... Wow Tommo, that is a bit harsh when I have tried to lose a bit of weight lately....!! SCBBA Rules are AFAIK not displayed anywhere for public view (correct me if I'm wrong); and I have not seen an updated hard copy since 2013. This leaves us at a slight disadvantage when reviewing with possible amendments in mind. You are totally correct to say that and, sadly, the actual copy that I have of the Rules is now nearly 2 THREE years out of date as they have not been updated since all of the changes were made at the AGM in August 2014 2013.... I have given up asking for them to be updated now. EDIT - I have just checked my records and it was actually 2013 that all of the rule changes were made.... nearly 3 years ago now.

Ha ha Dave, wasn't alluding to you - honest - and the elephant still remains even now ! The provision of an updated set of SCBBA rules should IMHO be seen as a priority, especially with 10 leagues affiliated to the association and reputedly following their set of Playing Rules handed down by All England: I have had to resort on my 3 websites to providing a direct link to the AEBBA set as they are all we have to go on. It is a particular shame as much was done to tidy them up (eg removal of duplications with AEBBA) for the 2013 AGM. I was reading the thread on here earlier today in which you had a massive input.

thanks Dave Simple, rules are self evident, one wonders why there are so many postponements allowed each season! There is a really simple answer to that.... because we all want teams to play the matches rather than have a committee decide the results. There are so many different reasons that games get postponed, but the main reason is usually that certain players are not available to play on the designated night. Most teams simply bring in reserves but some teams will not do that as it will weaken them and give them less chance of winning. Usually, it is down to the individual captain and his thoughts that decide what the policy will be. In a majority of cases, the postponed games are arranged without any difficulty, however this year we seemed to start later and the games are now closer together as a result of that. Add in the national tournaments, Sussex Comps weekend, One Day Inter League weekends and I am not surprised that we have already had problems this season. But there are still sufficient available dates that postponed games could be played so really the teams involved have no valid excuses for not playing them and, with all respect, the Leagues that are involved in the games that have been awarded all have enough players to be able to make up a team.... even if some of their normal players are not available.

Mid Sussex B postponed series 5 (Last series of first half ) 3rd Jan as 3 of the regular 7 players were not available we do not have many reserves to call on. The following weekend 9th 10th Jan was the Sussex Comps weekend. The Following weekend 17th Jan was Series 6 (First series of second half) which we played. We had no dates in that period in which to play this fixture I appreciate why the rules are in place and fully support them and the need to get matches played this should have been classed as a special extenuating circumstance as we were not informed of an extension for series 5!!!
Ros has done her absolute upmost to get a mutually agreed date with West Sussex to play this fixture but now we are not allowed to play it. As you have said several players have busy BB schedules. I believe this problem has been caused by a congested Home & Away Interleague fixtures list, I always thought that the preference was to have matches played & We have always fulfilled our matches in previous seasons.

I am mindful of your comments Ian, but when the committee were asked to adjudicate on an event, it has to use the rules available, as I understand it, there was only one outcome possible, I accept that the result was harsh in your eyes, but I remember 2 years ago Hastings failed to get promoted because of a 7-0 walkover between I think it was Redhill and Eastbourne. so I know exactly where you are coming from.
But I also believe that the rules are there for a good reason, ie to reduce the risk of a completely chaotic end to the inter league season where teams are late to finish as this affects ranking points which need to be administered in time to allow the Masters to run on time. As is said previously "lack of 1st choice players" is not a valid reason to postpone a match. I would also say that the rules need looking at as the 1st half threashold did leave you with few options and perhaps some thought on this at the AGM wouldn't go amiss.

Hello Ian, not wishing to pick an argument about this however as one of the people that voted against offering a further extension for this match to be played I do feel that a response is needed to your post.... Mid Sussex B postponed series 5 (Last series of first half ) 3rd Jan as 3 of the regular 7 players were not available we do not have many reserves to call on. As has been previously stated on this thread, under the competition rules if a team is missing regular players that is not classified as a valid reason to postpone a match. This season, Mid-Sussex B have used 10 players in the competition so far, which obviously means that you do have at least 3 reserves that have already played. According to the Mid-Sussex website, a total of 92 players have played in Mid-Sussex League so far this season so, with respect, I find it hard to accept your comment that you do not have "many reserves" as a valid reason. The following weekend 9th 10th Jan was the Sussex Comps weekend. Yes, that is true.... but how many Mid-Sussex B and West Sussex Inter League players took part in that competition? The answer is just 2 players from Mid-Sussex (Ros Appleby and Darrell Skinner) and none from West Sussex. Since the competition was finished by 7pm on the Sunday both of the players that did take part could have played an inter league match that night had they wanted to. The Following weekend 17th Jan was Series 6 (First series of second half) which we played. Yes, so clearly that was not a date that you could have played the postponed match. We had no dates in that period in which to play this fixture The Sunday after that (24th January) was an available date? The West Sussex Masters was played on January 31st so I presume that they would not have been available but teams have always had the option to play the match on a Monday night or any other night of the week by mutual agreement.... so again I must disagree with your comment that you had no dates to play the game. I appreciate why the rules are in place and fully support them and the need to get matches played this should have been classed as a special extenuating circumstance For the reasons shown above I would disagree with you and hope that you appreciate that the rules do have to be enforced or there is no point in having them in place. we were not informed of an extension for series 5!!! There were posts on the Forum in the threads for both Series 3 and Series 4 showing that an extension had been granted for postponed games until 31st January. Had I known that you game had been postponed I would have put a similar post in the Series 5 thread however I did not find out that the game had been postponed until Wednesday 27th January.... and I only found at then because I sent a text to Ros asking her to send me the result as I had not received it! I understand that Ros had spoken to the Inter League Secretary and requested an extension, the email that I received from Dave Jones about this advised that the match would be played one week after the 31st January although since there is an Inter League series that is due to be played on 7th February I am not sure how that would be possible? Ros advised me that the game would be played on 28th February, so 3 weeks after Series 7 which is far in excess of what could be acceptable under the rules. I believe this problem has been caused by a congested Home & Away Interleague fixtures list, I always thought that the preference was to have matches played Yes, I agree with both of these comments entirely.... we did start 4 weeks later this year than the previous season for various reasons and it is something that needs to be looked at by the Sussex Committee as I have previously stated. Personally, I would always prefer for a game to be played rather than to be awarded.... and that is part of the reason that a 4 week extension was given to play the postponed matches. However, extending that period to 8 weeks would set a precedent for future seasons and that I would be strongly against.
