May as well share our embarrassment first.......
Stout House A 4, Mill House 1 Gordon Carver 3330 Barry T 1100 Bogmeister 820, Tony F 3620 Glyn Owen 5680, tommo 3580 Twiggy 6710, Vicky 2010 Noggs 4130, Margo 1710
Very good home team performance from the lower division team on a table that we found strangely difficult. Rumours that the Zeds were 'fiddling about with it' on Monday night ! Franksey 4 out of 4 and still not out of first gear yet......

Windmill B 1-4 Stout House BB Stout House BB go top with 16pts. 8-) Roffey Y and Dun Horse B are breathing down their necks with 15pts. Div.2 is also developing into a 3-horse race between Limeburners, Plough and Stout House A.

The Zeds have always made their home top as playable as possible as I know from my time with them. There is no reason why Interleague or other players for that matter can`t go and practice the tables in use in our leagues! Surely the old adage of "Practice makes Perfect" is the way forward here ;)

There has been an interesting and well mannered discussion here so would like to add my own thoughts, however if it is considered better for this Off-Topic discussion to be extracted and put into it's own thread I shall do so ? does anyone wish this :)? anyway....
The tables are usually owned or rented by the Pubs or Clubs and therefore they are the ultimate arbiter of who has what rights for 'their' table :-[
I would have assumed that a second team joining a venue would respect the existing teams wishes and at least discuss the matter and reach an agreement. The Dun A team would be most upset if, in the unlikely event that, the Dun B team started to tinker with the table, especially as it was rated the best league table last year and has not been adjusted by me (the caretaker ;D) since.
When an Inter League Team moves to a new venue that always heightens the difficulties and makes discussion and agreement even more essential. This was resolved elsewhere with 3 or 4 teams, whereby one person 'only' was allowed to adjust the table......with the consent of all captains.
The acceptable etiquette for league players practising on an 'away' table has been debated on the forum before and the result showed differences in opinions, and if you throw in the question of a 'visiting' Inter League player for whom it is a 'Home' table makes for further variations, but not sure that is relevant in this instance? :-/

To be fair.... Not only as Horsham Interleague Capt & Stout BB Capt it does get frustrating to play a different table every visit!!! Set it up then just leave it alone please!!! Over & Out

....it does get frustrating to play a different table every visit!!! Set it up then just leave it alone please!!! Exactly. I accept that an attempt was made in good heart to try and make it better. But no amount of leg tweaking will compensate for the dodgy side cushion. All players ask for is to be able to play straight shots (a spirit level helps.)

Regarding the Stout House table. If people have got a problem with it then have the decency to ring me or contact me to find the facts about it, not bitch about it on here. Clive, you have known me for a long time, 'I' do not like playing on crap tables, in fact I am the first to moan about tables that you can't even get the break on which incidentally you can with great ease on ours. The table has been playing rubbish for a while and we constantly try and level it to make it playable. there is a problem with one of the legs and on Monday we thought we had fixed it. when I left the table Monday evening it was near perfect. I didn't pop back later to make it crap!! it is either people drinking in there leaning on it and not surprisingly I'm not going to spend the rest of my life standing guard over it or as I expect one of the legs is knackered. Along with Junkie I have spent hours trying to get it right for not only us but all who use it. Thank you Jim for your support you are quite right, GOOD players will score well. Now, unless anyone else is willing to take responsibility for it I suggest you air you complaints to me and not on here. A seriously p'ed off Vernon

Please try and keep it civil everyone - it's a billiard table not a matter of life and death.
thank you Tony

Vernon, I started this off with quite a lighthearted and I thought quite innocuous little dig, but Jim's comment..... .....wound me up considerably. I had to answer that point, but, not wishing to be drawn into an argument, later posted this (maybe you missed it ?): Exactly. I accept that an attempt was made in good heart to try and make it better. But no amount of leg tweaking will compensate for the dodgy side cushion. Note: No accusations of trying to rig the table - like some have been known to do. Merely a reference to the saying "you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear".At least some good has come of this by your being prompted to air your views on the Forum - you've been a 'lurker' for far too long. ;) tommo
