Firstly good luck to all those taking part and thank you for your support, remember there is a plate today in the doubles, but not tomorrow in the singles.
We will take entries for the Captains, Mixed Doubles and over 50s during the weekend with the draw to be done Monday evening at our Lewes game.
A few thankyou, a very large thankyou to Dave for taking on all the admin, and his able assistant Colleen.
To Nigel and Kev for helping set up the tables last evening, Bill, Colleen and Dave for housework last evening.
Bob Hall and Dave for turning out yesterdy morning to arrange all the furniture and get the tables sorted in place, Dave further for collecting and transprting the 6th table as Tarrets could only supply 4.
Colin Robins for doing the catering and the Hurst Club for hosting us and giving us free use of the club.
Once again Good Luck and enjoy.

Well done to Barry Holt & Dave France for winning the Mens Doubles today. They beat myself and Martin Cole in the final on aggregate.
A bigger well done goes to Lady H and Chrissie Newson on retaining the Ladies Doubles title. They won all their matches. Jean and Sandra were runners up

Excellent run day, thanks to Dave and Colleen on the admn desk, some gret play, echoing KT s congratuLations to Barry and Dave, Richard and Marcus for winning the plate, Hayley and Chrissie.
Tables in general very good, table 5 caused many a few problems, but KT made an excellent 20k (high break of the day) play out on that one. good to see some new faces who I am sure enjoyed their day.
Runners up in the plate were Sandy Harmer and Mike Daw

Congratulations to Barry Holt and Dave France on their victory yesterday, beating Kevin Tunstall and Martin Cole on aggregate score in the Final. Ian Lelliott & Geoff Jukes and Dave Ingram & Henry Brooks were the losing semi-finalists. On a day with a lot of high scores being recorded and 9 different players recording 10k plus breaks, Kevin Tunstall got the highest of the day with 20,400.... amazingly on Table 5 which was considered by most players to be by far the toughest table in the room with only one other score of 10k on it (also by SirKT and Martin!) and only ONE other score of more than 5k made all day and that was by their semi-final opponents! :o
Marcus Chipman and Richard Wooton (who was walking-wounded after his recent injury) won the Men's Plate Competition beating Mike Daw and Sandy Harmer on aggregate in a hard-fought final (on Table 5 ::)), although Mike did manage two 10k plus breaks during the Plate Competition, with Dave Jones & Colin Green and Bob Osborne & Phil Osborne being the losing semi-finalists. ;)
Congratulations to Hayley Tunstall & Crissie Newson who retained their Sussex Ladies Doubles title and remained unbeaten on the day. Jean Brackenridge & Sandra Hall were runners-up with 3 wins out of 4 and Jean also made a break of 14,220 during the last game of the day, which I believe is a new personal best for her. 8-)
Many thanks to everybody who was involved in running the day, especially Colleen & TJ for their hard work helping with the Admin Desk, Chef Colin for the great food and the Hurst Club for their hospitality. ;D

Congratulations to Barry and Dave, Chris and Hayley, Richard and Marcus. Apologies for not being there to cheer you all on - I left rather swiftly after the disaster in the semis - I was rather gutted. Well done to you all - it was a great, well run day!

Great to be able to read all of Chubbsters updates from the weekend.... a great idea and I'm sure that it helped to keep people informed of how the competition was going. 8-)
Another fantastic day of competitive Bar Billiards yesterday at the Hurst Club and congratulations to our new Sussex Singles Champions Kevin Tunstall and Jean Brackenridge. ;D
Let us start with the Ladies.... :-* .... it was Jean's 11th win in the Sussex Ladies Singles with her last victory in 2007/08 Season when she beat Sandra Race (Hall) and the final was a repeat of that game again! :o To reach the final, Jean had to overcome a "Stoner Trio" beating Lana, Zoe and then Bella in the semi-finals, hitting the highest Ladies score of 10,140 against Bella to overcome the 4k deficit from the first leg. Sandra reached the final after some close wins over Colleen Park, Lorraine Hall and Jan Bithell and the final itself was close all the way through with Jean winning by just over 3k overall. ;)
The Men's competition started with a bang with Gareth Lloyd running out Table 4 with a break of 22,360 in the first match of the day and Kevin Tunstall then playing out the same table with 23,470 in the very next series to record the highest score of the day. Nigel Senior also hit a break of 20,250 in the first round on Table 1 and there were 5 breaks of more than 10k during the first round and plenty of big scores on all of the tables. Perhaps the two biggest shocks in the first round were Barry Holt losing to Sussex Under 30's Champion Mike Daw (who hit an excellent 15k in the first leg) and Rick Dewdney losing to West Sussex player Gary Evans.
The high scores continued into Round 2 and Kevin Tunstall knocked out Gareth Lloyd in the big clash after Gareth got a big "kick" on his break shot that meant that both balls stayed up when he was about 3k up in the second leg and looking very comfortable.... :-/ .... Henry Brooks had a 16k break in his win over Richard Jeffrey and Dave Ingram came back from 13k down to beat Martin Smith. Ian Lelliott beat Mark James and Alan Brackenridge knocked out Terry Race but Nigel Senior, Jim Millward, Richard Wooton, Jim Greensted, Mal and Bill Kerr all progressed through with 10k plus scores.
Into the last 16 and Kevin Hall had a close win over Colin Southouse and Martin Cole beat Roger Taylor. Kevin Tunstall came back from 3k down against Geoff Jukes when Geoff broke down too early in his break game and Bill Kerr knocked out Henry Brooks after Henry got a big kick on his opening break shot when chasing an 8k deficit from the first leg. Jim Greensted took advantage of an early peg to beat Nigel Senior and Jim Millward played a solid game to beat Alan Brackenridge. Richard Wooton "limped on" (sorry Richard!) but played well in his win against Mal Spier and Dave Ingram beat Ian Lelliott thanks to a break in the last minute in a tense game on Table 1. ::)
The Quarter-Finals gave us some more good games with Kevin Hall getting the better of Martin Cole on (tricky) Table 5 and Kevin Tunstall knocked out Bill Kerr. In the "Battle of the Jim's", Mr Millward had a lead of just under 12k after the first leg but a superb table play out of 17,620 saw Mr Greensted progress and Dave Ingram came back from 6.5k down to beat Richard Wooton thanks to a slow 12k opening break. ;)
Into the semi-finals and Kevin Tunstall took full advantage of a pegged opening break by Kevin Hall to take an 11k lead before touching up on 6k to make sure he got through, while Dave Ingram opened with 13.6k before having the ball drop off red spot while playing the one up.... :o .... luckily I kept the break and managed to add another 3k to set Jim Greensted just over 16k. Jim looked very comfortable in his reply and was certainly on track to reach the target before coming off on 10.6k and the balls stayed at the back of the table for long enough to mean that he didn't have time to catch me when he got the break back.
What can I say about the final.... KT was simply awesome and on this form will take some stopping in the Opens this year. One early split went to the 20 hole, everything else was in the 100 hole and he never looked like missing on his way to his second Sussex Men's Singles title, having previously won the competition in 2006/07 Season. The target of 22,620 that he set meant that I would have had to hit a personal best, but I broke down on 5.6k while trying to go too fast.... ::) :-[
Now a few thank you's....
The Hurst Club for their hospitality, warm welcome and assistance over the weekend. 8-)
Colin Robbins, who as always provided a great selection of good food at reasonable prices. ;D
Tarratt's Tables for the 4 tables they provided.... probably the best we have seen for a long time. ;D
Everybody involved in getting the tables to the Hurst Club and helping to set them up and cleaning them for the weekend.... Nigel Senior, Kevin Hall, Bill Kerr, Rob Hall, Dave Jones, Terry Molloy and Jim Millward.... not forgetting Colleen who also did a huge amount of the work on the Admin Desk while I was playing! ::) ;D ;D
A huge thank you also to our Competition Secretary Tony Jenner.... for all of his work getting in all of the entries, running the competitions this weekend, resolving a couple of small problems and making sure that everything ran smoothly.... even letting us use his own table when we were unable to get the last table from another source at the last minute. 8-)
Lastly, but no means least, all of the players who travelled from all over Sussex and took part in the competitions this weekend.... without your support we wouldn't be able to have these competitions and we had one of the best turn-outs that we have had for several years and I hope you all enjoyed it. 8-) ;D

Yes an excellent weekend and worth all the effort to see it well supported, one or two minor hiccups, but easily with help got over.
Thanks to Dave and Colleen fort their tireless work on the admin work, without which I would be totally lost. Also for Dave at the last minute using his transport to go out of his way to collect and return the table from home (remember I am one of the furthest out). To Andy Farmer-Wright and Bill Kerr for helping reset the club today, the pLayers over the weekend for all the alcolades.
I have passed a message to Tarrets about the standardo fthe supplied tables, and among all the great performances the weekend, Kevin Tunstalls 20k on Saturday on table 5 will stand out as it was far and away the best table 5 was played, yeaterday after a lot of work on it although quirky it was 100% better all round.
Wonderfull pair of finals yesterday, and seeing how all enjoyed it a worthwhile weekend. Let us hope that the club gets obver its problems aan we are there for many years to come.

Also for Dave at the last minute using his transport to go out of his way to collect and return the table from home (remember I am one of the furthest out). One last thank you that I forgot.... to Rick Cunningham for helping to get the table back to TJ's house last night after the competition had ended meaning it was far easier to get back indoors. 8-) I'm not sure that Rick endeared himself to SirKT though while dismantling the table at the Club as he needed to use a hacksaw to cut through a broken screw on one of the legs.... while Kevin was on his opening break in the Final! :o A quiet word from KT and work ceased on the table.... although it didn't seem to break his concentration enough to make him miss a shot, but perhaps next time I will pay Rick to use the hacksaw on the table we are actually playing on to give me a better chance of winning....!! ::) ;D ;D ;D

I`d also like to thank Dave & Colleen and TJ for all their hard work. Dave - you done a fantastic job and made the final as well, not an easy feat. I used to do the Oxon open and play. Well done. Although I had some excellent breaks, I could have lost both to Gareth & Geoff earlier. Gareth had a kick when going well on table 5 and Geoff didn`t take advantage of me losing my opening break of 11k in the first leg of our match on table 6, only opening up with 2k in the second and letting me back in.
The tables were superb all weekend, even table 5 lol (me and that table have got history ;D)
Hopefully I can take this form into the AE singles later in the year when representing Sussex.
