K.Hurley & S.Hurley v C.Park & D.Ingram at Romans being played tonight at 7pm .... and the match resulted in a 2-1 win for Kim and Steve, with Kim winning the decider on the last ball getting the 100 hole first time. We wish them good luck in the next round. ;) Many thanks to Matt K for scoring the games for us, it would probably be fair to say that none of us gave him too much work to do during the games although Steve did manage a 2k break in the first game, which was more probably more than either pair managed to score in either of the last two games.... ::) Having played this table in a previous round of the Men's Singles, I made the following comment about it.... We all then went down to the Romans where I beat Mick 2-0 in the mens singles.... fair to say that both games were very scrappy with neither of us getting to grips with a pretty unforgiving table.... :-/ .... followed by.... To be fair, there isn't much wrong with the table here.... yes, it does have a bit of a roll and it would benefit from having a good clean (balls and pockets) and being levelled and ironed.... :-/ .... I would also say that it didn't play as well as it had in the Team Cup match we had there a few weeks ago, but I also think that we both made it look much harder than it actually is. :'( ....sadly, the table seems to have got much worse since then and is, IMHO, not fit to have League matches or competitions played on it at the moment. :o It would not take much to get the table to be level and playing much better than it is now.... visiting players have a right to expect to play a "normal shot" towards a hole and have the ball at least go somewhere near to the target that they have aimed for, especially in a competition where it is a "neutral table". >:( I am not saying that it would have affected the result.... our opponents played the table better than we did and fully deserved their win on the night.... but I honestly don't think that any of the players actually enjoyed the games. :'(

Draw for this to be done at One-Day Competition on Saturday 23/02/2013 A couple of years ago, having lost in the First Round of the singles, I was told by the (previous) Competition Secretary that players that were in the top 16 of the Rankings from the previous season and Premier Division players were not allowed to play in the Plate.... is that rule no longer in place? ???

I took advice from members of the committee and all those that are listed were approved to play. I have no idea about a 'rule'. I can seek further clarification if required.

I took advice from members of the committee and all those that are listed were approved to play. I have no idea about a 'rule'. I can seek further clarification if required. There actually is a rule that covers this.... E16. The Committee shall upon registration of a player decide whether that player shall be classed as a seeded player for the Men’s single competition. Seeded players shall only be eligible to enter the singles competition and shall be deemed ineligible for the plate competition. The seeding of a player shall be open to appeal to the Committee. Unseeded players shall be eligible for the plate competition if they fulfil the other entry requirements for that competition. .... although the Rule does not explain what is meant by a "seeded" player, or if the seeded players are kept apart in the 1st Round? ::) I have no objection to any of the players listed taking part in the Plate and do not need the matter clarified at this stage.... however I do personally think that it is wrong to have this Rule at all as if a player pays to enter a competition then they should be entitled to play in all parts of the competition and should not be excluded from the Plate if they are unfortunate enough to be knocked out in their first game. :P For that reason I will be proposing that the Rule is either removed at the next AGM.... or at least amended to state exactly what is meant by a "seeded" player before the competition starts and if seeded players are kept apart in the first round. ;)

To my knowledge a player who played for a premier team was normally seeded but I think this has been open to interpretation over the years. Myself for example have played for a premiership team for a few years but I'm sure most will agree that I am in now way to be considered a premiership player. Hence me being allowed to play in the Plate competitions each year. You Dave on the other hand would easily be considered to be in the premiership bracket and hence your exclusion from previous competitions.
