Not trying to stir up any trouble but this competition is called Captains Cup. The original idea for this when it was previously played was that it was for Captains of league teams within Sussex. Out of personal interest I would like to know which league teams in Sussex the players who have entered this competition are Captain of. I also think its unfortunate Bobhall cant play but as hes Captain how can another member of his team take his place.

Colleen Park Laughing Fish, Lewes League Ros Appleby Eight Bells Tony Jenner Cellar Bar B Worthing Kev Stoner Albion Adam Kuzimski Stout House Bob Hall Hurst Club Dave Ingram Laughing Fish Watney Mann
Thought Andy Farmer Wright was captain of Brewers in Mid Sussex my apologies if mistaken. Colin was keen to play rather than a walk over and I agreed last night that if somebody who was eligible for the competition came forward then they could take Bob Halls place. If Andy is not a captain then it would be Colin who progressess.

Hi Colin
Sorry but I have to disagree. Not sure who ok'd this but if a substitute is to take Bobhalls place then it should be a Captain of a team in Sussex not just another player from that team.
If Andy then went on and won this competition you would have someone winning the Captains Cup whos not actually a Captain ...... just dont seem quite right to me.

Thought Andy Farmer Wright was captain of Brewers in Mid Sussex my apologies if mistaken. Andy was captain of the Brewers, but unfortunately the team folded at the beginning of the current season. I had suggested that Andy play, based on Colin's post asking for another member of Bobhall's team to play in his place. I confess I have no idea what the rules are for this competition. I presume that Watney Mann captains are eligible, as Dave has entered?

Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to TJ for taking over as comp secretary a couple of years ago. We all know how quiet it goes when you elect officers at the AGM Tony has worked hard to bring back some competitions that had died a death. When taking entries he used his initiative and allowed Captains into the Captains cup.
When I saw another member of a team being put in as a substitute I thought this was wrong as they weren't a Captain so shouldn't be in the Captains cup.
My thoughts are that a discussion on who is eligible for this competition in future years should be discussed at this years AGM and the decision made known to all leagues.
I'm certainly not against promoting the game and not against a player coming in to take bobhalls place as long as in this case they are a captain.

Thankyou Jean and do feel that a discussion on the subsidary sompetitions is needed as we have to look at the future of these, the doubles and singles have settled well into the one day format, but we have struggled with the other competitions. With some work we have resurected the Over 50s, and I would very much like to keep all comps going but elegibility does need clarifying.
Also any ideas on how we go forward with thes comps would be appreciated. Also think we need to look at the local elegibility for the Watney Mann bearing in mind that All England rules will come under discussion for the Team Championships.
I have enjoyed the challange of the competitions and look forward if invited to do so carrying on the work.

I confess I have no idea what the rules are for this competition. I presume that Watney Mann captains are eligible, as Dave has entered? I did raise this question at the time of entry and was informed by the Competition Secretary that I was eligible to take part. ;D Perhaps some rules should be put in place that ensure that there will be no confusion about eligibility in the future.... there is a special thread running on the Forum for new Rule Proposals should somebody wish to do this? ::)

Hi Jean, Perhaps we need to expand the options in this comp I'm sure there a plenty of captains that are too busy to put their names down, why not change it to a team singles comp like the lewes sprackling cup, ie 1 nominated player to represent each team, so that if player a doesnt fancy it and alternate player could put their name down and if there are 2 teams at 1 venue then 2 players can put their name down, each player would be representing the venue rather than themselves might be worth a discussion on the practicalities and if it increases the number of entrants why not? regs cs

Peter Payne v Dave Ingram @ Greyhound, Keymer I beat Peter 2-0 tonight, match had to be switched to the Plough at Plumpton after arriving at the Greyhound to find that the table had been moved as there was a function going on at the pub tonight.... pity they didn't tell us when we booked the table last week! ::) Plough table was excellent, many thanks to them letting us play the game and to Bill for scoring. ;D

Jim v Colin at the Hurst
game 1 Colin 3k Jim 11K game 2 jim 13k Colin 2k
after I opened with the break 4 times things went downhill from then on, Jim took only a short time to get used to the big LH roll and the fast top and a 7k break early on sealed the first game.
in game 2 Jim continued his mastery of the difficult top off break and got to 10k early on, I was unable to deal with the table any better and deserved to be at the wrong end of a drubbing tonight.
As the missus was with me tonight, she made some new friends at the Hurst who recommended a trip to the plough at Pyecombe for a snack on the way home. I can thoroughly recommend the venue, food really nice especially the pate starter, the entrecote stroganoff and the bottle of merlot.
result lost 2-0 and £70 worse off but worth it ;)
