Going to put a closing date for entries as 20th May as I need to sort formats out depending on numbers More entries needed to make this viable to run.... :-/ Here is a list of the players that took part last year that have not entered so far.... Chris Hagger Jamie Hall Joe Oakley Jason Akehurst Kristian Knudson Lorenzo Hickman I can think of several other players that would also be eligible to play so if anybody sees them perhaps they can find out if they do want to play and we can hopefully make this event as successful as last year was. 8-)

As someone who started playing at the age of 23 I missed out on the Under 22 tournament as it used to be.
My upset war further increased when at the age of 26, this tournament converted to an Under 25 event to increase participants.
My complete dismay was complete when at the age of 31, this tournament was converted to an Under 30 event to increase participation.
As a 32 male, may I please enter under special circumstances? :)

I know exactly how you feel, Chubbster. Many moons ago, when the Southern Counties Association was in existence, an under-22's challenge was arranged against Hants, Surrey and Kent. Local players Tony Franks and John Slee took part, but I was told I did not qualify as I had already reached the advanced age of 23. ::) :'( Born prematurely, you and me both ! ;D

I think that Chubbster is also getting a bit mixed up about which competitions he wants to be allowed to play in! :o I believe that the Under 22's was a National Tournament which I am pretty sure then became the AEBBA Under 25's which is still run by AEBBA each year, whereas the previous competition for young players in Sussex was actually the Under 23's that ceased in 1983.... so if you had only just missed out on eligibility for that I think you should be okay for the Over 50's easily now Glenn....!! :P ;D ;D At the tender age of 32, you can still enter all of the National Opens and AEBBA Competitions (Main & Plate of course! ;D), while more locally there are the Sussex Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles (assuming you have suitable partners of course) so there is plenty of things there to enter which I am sure will help to reduce your dismay.... ;D

Really dont like 11 players!! Could do with at least another couple. I know Joe Oakley, Chris Oakley, Kristian Knudson all mentioned that they were going to enter but that was about 2 months ago. I havent got a contact number for any of them so if anyone has perhaps they would contact them for me.

Only 3 more years to go and Rick Astley himself could enter that one ! ;D Aaaaaaggghhhh.... please don't mention THAT name again Tommo!! :o :P >:( :'( Chubbster nearly ended up walking home from Clacket Lane after he played THAT song in my car on our way home from Kent, which almost caused a very nasty accident on the M25 last night. ::) I am pleased to say that I am feeling slightly better today, although I could be facing a long recovery period after such a torrid experience.... ;D ;D ;D

Please add Chris Oakley Joe Oakley Kristian Knudson
That makes 14 which I can work with. Will be able to use the same format as last year which was for 13-16 players so could still accomodate 2 more players if anyone still wants to enter.

See this is the problem, there are players listed here as "Bright Young Prospects" who are actually OLDER than me.... which means either 2 things are happening here: 1. Bar Billiards is becoming very "ageist" 2. I really am useless and not consider a prospect. I'm happy to go with the later, but trust me when it comes to "Age Restricted" Tournaments there is defiantly a conspiracy going on! Just mark my words, there will come a time in the future where Sussex Bar Billiards or the AEBBA or someone like that will announce that to sustain numbers, the Under 30's will now be the Under 35's, and I assure you that on that day, I will turn 36..... As for the over 50's, if I'm staying that long, I'm fairly confident that the day I turn 50 it will become the Over 55's. Given that in my position of neither being "young" or "Old" I am clearly being discriminated against, so I would like to propose a new tournament be added to our calendar, I would like it to be called "The National 32 to 35 Year Old's who's name is Glenn Open Singles". I'm fairly certain I could win that one (no sarky remarks please Tommo or Warrior!) and I would like some National Ranking points too....... Enough to qualify the winner for the grand prix would do nicely thank you. One last note, I must sincerely apologise to The Warrior for Rick Rolling him in the car. It won’t happen again I assure you. It was wrong of me, especially after all the lovely things you and Bill said to me on the way up…… Trust me what I have planned for you next is far, far worse….. I’m getting a new tshirt this week, so stay tuned ;) Yours With Love Glenn “Always, Always The Wrong Age” Chubbster

I was almost crying when I read this post.... :'( .... but (having stopped laughing) I suddenly wondered who Chubbster was talking about when he said this.... ::) See this is the problem, there are players listed here as "Bright Young Prospects" who are actually OLDER than me.... .... surely, he must have been looking at a different list? ::) As far as this is concerned.... I'm happy to go with the later, but trust me when it comes to "Age Restricted" Tournaments there is defiantly a conspiracy going on! Just mark my words, there will come a time in the future where Sussex Bar Billiards or the AEBBA or someone like that will announce that to sustain numbers, the Under 30's will now be the Under 35's, and I assure you that on that day, I will turn 36..... .... I am sure Glenn is right and the proposal to change the age group for this will appear in 2017, I will only need a seconder and Bill has already offered to be that.... :o ;D ;D One last note, I must sincerely apologise to The Warrior for Rick Rolling him in the car. It won’t happen again I assure you. It was wrong of me, especially after all the lovely things you and Bill said to me on the way up…… Trust me what I have planned for you next is far, far worse….. My shattered nerves have almost recovered from this horrific experience and, given time, I am sure that I will forgive Glenn entirely for the incident, although I must say that I did feel that it was something of an over-reaction from him just because Bill & I said that he should play in the Plate Competition if he was knocked out in the First Round.... ::) ;D I dread to think what he has planned for me next though.... especially as we are due to meet in the Brighton Doubles Final next week! :o ::) :-X I’m getting a new tshirt this week, so stay tuned ;) Looking forward to seeing the t-shirt though.... ;D

They'll have to come off the list ! Anyway, if you do so much want to take part in the under 30's the likelihood is that you could - on the basis of being a "Spare Part".Gandalf played some frames in it last year - and it was either to give a player with a Bye a game, or else he hasn't aged very well ! ;D

Oh I see, so Gandalf the Untidy gets a game, but I don’t! You see I told you, it’s a conspiracy and it’s in full force.
It took me a while, but I finally figured it out. It came to me you would say, like a bolt out of the blue, but now all the pieces of the jigsaw are coming together, and the picture is finally becoming clear for all to see. And it’s so, so simple…..
You’re all afraid of the Chubbster aren’t you?
Yes, that’s right., it’s the only explanation. Let’s think about it, the powers that be have “strategically” changed the entrance requirements to perfectly match my ever increasing age ensuring that I don’t get to enter. And lets face it, with The Warrior around to keep making new proposals and Bill “I’ll second that” Kerr behind him, then it’s never going to change is it? I mean why else would so many great players (who happen to be over 50) make a tournament just for them? It makes no sense, unless they are afraid of the Chubbster! You know it, I know it, we all know it…..
I can see it now. You’re laying there the night before a tournament in your bed visualising the next day. You’ve done all your practice and spent many hours honing every last shot on the table. You’ve done your mental preparations (or in other words worked out all the insults your going to throw at me the next day) purely designed to keep me down. You’ve stayed off the beer for a couple of days, are having an early night to ensure you reach peek performance at the perfect time. But despite all that, as you lay there with you eyes shut, the faint sound of the crowd can be herd in the background getting louder and louder, and what are they chanting? I’ll tell you what they’re chanting…
“Lets Go Chubbster, Lets Go Chubbster” “You are Awesome, You Are Awesome”
And so the beads of sweat start to run down your faces as you realise that despite all your best preparations, it’s the Chubbster who stands in your way. So what do you do? Do you train harder? Do you focus more? Do you epically rise to the challenge like true hero’s would? Do you?
No, you change the age so that I can’t enter, discriminate against me and call me a clown!
Well no longer, you know what, you’ve all just got me on board. You know as I was sitting there at the Off The Spot Championship having lost my first round games in both the main and the plate, I started to wonder if Bar Billiards was really for me. I mean lets face it, a really good friend of mine hit the nail right on the head just this Sunday (and to huge amusement of everyone around, even Andy who I had only just met). I am just “Caberet” aren’t I? A joke on the day to lift your spirits, a toy to be played with and cast aside once he gets borning……It was at this time I thought of all the other things I could be doing, of how I’ve failed in my quest to return to the game and be a decent, respectable Bar Billiards player…. I’ve how I’ve let you down with my rick rolling, my forum posts, my stupid ideas to improve the game!
But no longer, because you’ve just got me on board.
It was a wise man that once said “Above all else, to thy known self be true” and I’ve been running away from myself for far too long. So from this point onwards, I’m going to enter every open (those few that fit my age range), I’m going to climb every tree, Rick Roll everyone at every possible opportunity, post on EVERY thread until I finlly pass Tommo in post count, act a bigger clown, and sing louder and prouder, and be more outrageous and stupid than anyone ever thought I could possibly be. You can call me a comedy act if you want… that’s fine. But remember this.
One day, you will feel the wrath of my cue.
And when that day comes, you will bow down before my feet and hail the Chubbster for the saviour he is….. oh yes you will. You mark my words. And it’s starts with the Warrior and Mr Kerr.
For in one week from today, I will step up to the plate in our epic final, call the coin toss, win that and put our team on first. I shall then take a deep breath, shut my eyes and focus like never before, pick up my cue, put some chalk on, and then loudly, proudly and triumphantly turn to my partner and say……
“Go get them Jim”
Then and only then will you feel the full power of the Chubbster.
Good luck to all you Under 30’s (and Gandalf apparently) Remember to do your best, but also that it’s not going to be your last chance. I’m pretty sure once you all turn 30, the age will up once again to include you all, but exclude me!!!!!!!!
(Chubbster turns to Camera and in funny comical voice says) Whateva, I do what I want!
See you all soon I’m sure ;D ;D ;D
