As so comes my final report, a quite remarkable match in many ways and fitting of a final between the first and second place tams in the league.
Brighton Team Knock Out Final 2013
The Black Horse vs The Atlas C @ The Albion
*Gareth Lloyd 320 - 13,740 Geoff Jukes Jim won the toss and elected to break in games 2,4,6 seeing that each leg was equal chance. Gareth went off with next to nothing having pushed the red ball past the 50 hole, and Geoff slowly got into the table to secure the first game with an excellent performance getting more than enough to seal the leg with his first visit. 1-0 to the Atlas.
Richard Wooton 0 - 19,240 Steve Mariner* Some of you may remember earlier in the season when Steve was denied a 20k+ break by the bar dropping a couple of minutes short of the "normal time" due to the funny Albion table. Well low and behold it happened again, stopping on 17.11 and denying Steve another (what would have been) 22k at least. That said, Steve was awesome in racking up this 19k break to run the table completely out. It was then up to Richard to pull the Bar again and chase the score down, only to do the exact same thing as Gareth and push the red past the 50. He hen pegged after 4 shots, proclaiming it to be the most expensive game of Bar Billiards he had ever played. 2-0 to the Atlas.
*Ian Lelliott 18,550 - 0 Glenn Chubb As with the leg before, Ian got to the table and started about getting a big score for me to chase, which he did to the tune of and awesome 18,550 in which I didn't see him get into any real trouble at all. It was then up to me to pull the bar again and chase the score down, but what with the scorer making bets about how many shots I would last and the inevitable joking from all around about how bad a player I am, I gave them what they all wanted and put the ball down 4 times on the break. 2-1 to the Atlas and with 2 table run outs in 3 legs.
Marcus Chipman 8,460 - 3,630 Grant Tully* Grant came off with just under 2k and Marcus went on to make a steady (if not somewhat wobbly in the first couple of thousand) 8k break to seal the leg with his first visit. I think Marcus has now won 4 out of the 5 games he's played against us this season, and the one he lost in he kicked off with 8,200 so well done Marcus, you can claim to be the best player out of all of us :) 2-2 and we are down to the final game.
*Nigel Senior 18,980 - 1,440 Jim Millward Nigel started and despite a couple of wobbles throughout the duration, managed to stay on and run the table out for the 3rd time this evening amassing a break of 18,980... awesome. It was then up to Jim to pull the bar for the 8th time and try and chase, but unfortunately he only got past 1k before going up the back of the table where he broke down on 1,440. So the final scared ended 3-2 to the Black Horse in a superb final with an even better standard of Bar Billiards.
That's the league and cup double for what I believe have been the best team this season in the black horse, so may I once again offer my congratulations to all of you on a fine, fine season as you fully deserve all the plaudits. I have greatly enjoyed all of our matches, and knowing you all so well it's always a great evening. I look forward to many more matches next year.
One last good luck to Gareth for Saturday, many congratulations to you and your wife to be. I hope you have a wonderful day :)
