And so it begins again!!!
Brewers Droops 4 CKRBL 1
The defending league champions are brought back down to earth in the opening league match of the new season. To be totally honest there was a point in the match where it could have gone either way, but, that lasted for a few seconds and it went ours and deservedly so!!! :P :P :P :P
Richard Jeffrey 3320 ;D Derek Taylor 2020 :'(
Kevin Hall 1700 :'( Dave Ingram 3680 ;D
AF Wright 4460 ;D Dave Page B/P :'( :'(
Colin Humphrey 5430 ;D Peter Edwards 2200 :'(
Peter Hall 1230 :P ;D Jenny Edwards 1180 :P :'(
With both teams fielding new players for this season, it was shaping up to be an interesting clash. I lead off against Derek and scraped a victory with some very uncharacteristic tactical play on my part. Needs must.
Clash of the 'new' boys in game 2 with Kevin having a real struggle against big Dave, a little back and forth for the start with Kev pegging his break just as he was getting into the groove, Dave stayed strong and consistent taking the game with ease in the end.
Game 3 saw Andy Farmer taking on Dave Page, with Pagey leading of with 2000+ break, not to be put of Andy fired right back with 2000+ of his own, a real see saw battle this one, neither player really putting in the killer score to finish the match, then Pagey clears the balls, break back and slips in 1500, runs out of position, plays a great recovery shot, break back and on the very next shot played the break too thin and too had, white ball spun out of the right 50 pocket and knocked over the black peg , game to the Farmer!!! Bad luck Dave :P
Then onto game 4 with Colin taking on the 'brother-in-law' Peter. Colin played well maintaining his good mid-sussex form from last week, strong consistent break building on and off the break spots. Peter uncharacteristically struggling with the Brewers top rallied towards the end but made the mistake that allowed the 'noddster' to kill the game with good breaks of 2600+ and a further 1500 or so at the last knockings.
Final match 'ole' father Hall taking on Jen Edwards, with the tie lost already this turned into a real grind of a game, neither player getting to grips with the top which had managed to develop an annoying roll. Jen was in front, (almost said on top there :P :P) for the entire match and father Hall performed an excellent steal needing the red in the 200 to win and getting it!!!! ;D ;D ;D
A good night with lots of laughs mostly at mine own expense but no change there. Well played to my lads and bad luck to the Kleiners!! :P :D
