And here are my thoughts on these games.... Black Horse v Laughing Fish (Black Horse receive 3,200 points in 3 of the games) Hard to see the Fish getting anything here tonight.... 4-1 to the home team. Plough v Ye Olde Black Horse (Plough receive 4,000 points in 3 of the games) The Rotters will also find the handicap hard to overcome.... a 3-2 home win for the Plough. Star Eastbourne v Cock'n'Balls (Cock'n'Balls receive 1,100 points in 3 of the games) The Star know their table well, a 3-2 home win here. Hassocks Hotel v Glynde Club (Hassocks receive 200 points in 3 of the games) Not much to choose between these two teams and the handicap doesn't really come into it at all, a 3-2 away win for the League Cup leaders.

Black Horse get start on a table the Fish struggled to swim up but going to predict a shock 3-2 away win.
Plough to furrow a path to a 3-2 victory, although the rotters must spoil somebodys party soon.
The Star to shine bright in the sky tonight and come away with a 4-1 win here.
A close encounter with the handicap not really mattering, the table being good I fully expect the away team to win 3-2.

I think that Gandalf meant to put this post on this thread..... Black horse v fish a tight 3-2 home win with a massive handicap to overcome, I would give the fish a chance if Millward was around. Plough v black horse another tight 3-2 home win to the eventual league winners now that Trevor is about Star v cock 3-2 away win Stewart is away and not sure about Bob and the draw will be important but this may be nap of the season Hassocks v glynde still thinking about this one, another tough call, it depends who plays at home if robbo can make it I would go for a 3-2 home win but as I expect 1 of the top 5 to be missing and with glynde at full strength I'll remain in the away camp and back the visitors to win 3-2

I've done an analysis of how well each team have used their handicaps. The table shows how many points each team have gained through using the Joker TM, compared to how many they could have gained if they were used to best effect. I've had to make the somewhat unrealistic assumption that the scores would have been the same whether or not the Joker TM had been played. Team | actual gain | pot gain | efficiency | lost pts | Black Horse | 1 | 3 | 33% | 2 | Black Horse Rott. | 0 | 0 | - | 0 | Cock n Balls | 3 | 4 | 75% | 1 | Glynde Club | 1 | 1 | 100% | 0 | Hassocks | 0 | 1 | 0% | 1 | Laughing Fish | 0 | 0 | - | 0 | Plough | 4 | 7 | 57% | 3 | Star | 0 | 2 | 0% | 2 |

The fish having the highest team average sadly will always be 0% I would prefer to look at as we will always be 100% because there is nothing I can do to decide who does or does not have the handicap.... so I can therefore never get it wrong! It has been interesting to see which players have been chosen to have the handicaps against us in the 4 matches played so far.... certainly there have been some choices that have surprised me! Although we are enjoying the competition and it is something "different" to try, my own view remains that the current handicap system is wrong and would be much better if it was based on individual players rather than a team average and that some consideration should be given to the individual table qualities..... I think that would make it an ever closer competition and would mean that EVERY player would have an EQUAL chance of winning rather than 3 selected players having a better chance of winning, especially as on most occasions it seems to be the 3 strongest players or those drawn with the break that receive the handicap which actually makes it even harder for the other 2 players to win. Just my own opinion and not meant in any way as a criticism of the format for this competition.

Time to do some marking, starting with me.... Black Horse v Laughing Fish (Black Horse receive 3,200 points in 3 of the games) Hard to see the Fish getting anything here tonight.... 4-1 to the home team. A shock 4-1 away win to beat the handicapper.... clearly I should have had a lot more faith in my team mates! No points for me here though. Plough v Ye Olde Black Horse (Plough receive 4,000 points in 3 of the games) The Rotters will also find the handicap hard to overcome.... a 3-2 home win for the Plough. Spot on for 2 points. Star Eastbourne v Cock'n'Balls (Cock'n'Balls receive 1,100 points in 3 of the games) The Star know their table well, a 3-2 home win here. A 4-1 home win for the stars gives me 1 point. Hassocks Hotel v Glynde Club (Hassocks receive 200 points in 3 of the games) Not much to choose between these two teams and the handicap doesn't really come into it at all, a 3-2 away win for the League Cup leaders. Another correct prediction for another 2 points. A total of 5 points for me this week.

Now lets see how Gandalf got on this week.... Black horse v fish a tight 3-2 home win with a massive handicap to overcome, I would give the fish a chance if Millward was around. Two good points for predicting the correct result for Hassocks v Glynde and another two for the Plough v YO Black Horse match as well. 4 points for Gandalf this week.

Black Horse 2 Fish 3 Plough 4 Ye Olde Black Horse 1 Star 4 Cock 1 Hassocks 2 Glynde 3 A good week for Little Legs as well by the look of it..... even though his 4-1 prediction for Plough v YO Black Horse was scuppered by the Plough being 1 player short! 1 point for the home win in that game, 1 point for predicting the away win for the Fish and 2 points for each of the other results which were spot on. 6 points for Little Legs this week.

2 points also for Tengu for posting this fascinating insight into the joker selections, I am sure that the captains will be referring to this for the remaining games. Now, how can I improve my efficiency rating.... hmmmm, new double glazing is perhaps the only answer at the moment!
