I was amazed to hear Bar Billiards mentioned on the Talk Sport national radio program today.... sadly it was only a passing mention while they talked briefly about the "Indoor League" tv program and the main presenter (Colin Murray) was quick to say that none of the events on that program could really be called a sport which made me want to change channels.

This is why we need a high-profile sportsperson to endorse our game.....someone like Jessica Ennis-Hill. How about it Sheffield, get her to be Patron of Sheffield Bar Billiards League with no other strings attached !

A two page feature on the York league (written by yours truly!) has just been published in the Winter 2014 edition of York CAMRA's Ouse Boozer magazine. Here's a link (the article's on pages 33-35): www.matelotmarketing.co.uk/assets/ouseboozer122.pdfThe Ouse Boozer has a circulation of 7,500 and is given away free in pubs all across the York/Scarborough region, so this is hopefully going to be good for raising the profile of the game in North Yorks, and encouraging more pubs to get involved!

What a great day all of you must have had, a pub crawl with Bar Billiards in every pub and only a walk away! 790 Highest brk!....also played in the right spirits of the game with nobody hogging the table for too long, not like some I could mention these days...

An excellent article - well done. There is a definable connection in our newer leagues between bar billiards and proper beer....! Tony

Some good lyrical waxings in your article... Interested to see that you plan to send out a feeler for Norwich, their venues are similarly grouped together within a convenient range of each other. And they like their real ale, cider too. Don't forget they play the completely different version of the game with the extra mushroom, though.

Thanks very much for all the positive responses!
We'd love to see you guys come up and join us for a similar outing whenever you fancy - it does make a great day out, around some terrific pubs.
Although with 790 being considered an impressive break around these parts we'd be under no illusions about who would come out on top!

Just for general info, we've changed the York Bar Billiards website to a new address, with a nicer looking layout: yorkbarbilliards.altervista.org/Let us know what you think!

Very impressive, it's beginning to seem like you've always been there !
Even some of the affiliated counties are lacking their own website....
