Looking forward to this weeks games, hope garden bar can clip hospitals wings, bring us all closer to make last games interesting! A couple of reserves now playing for the hospital with Bob and Mike not available should shorten the odds, but Phil counts double on the hospital top reckon a 3-3 is likely.

Well,we finished 6-0! Joe beat me 2460 to my dismal 1370, getting breaks of 540 and 2x570, Game 2, Colin broke against Gareth, Colin scored,Gareth was unlucky all game,2870 to 770, Game 3,tony broke and Nigel escaped with the point,2460 against tony's 600! Game 4, Joe played brilliantly, break of 1440 and my black pegs to score zero! Game 5,Gareth did much better, scoring 1580 to colins 2170, game 6, saw Nigel lose more points than he scored, losing 2500 break and still scoring 3860 to tony's 150! oh well, good night even chell and jack turned up to take the mickey!

For the Interleague challenge, suggest a random draw and breaks 2,3,5,6 to visitors and 1,4,7 to home side as per Sussex traditions. Debating with self on whether to bring out the best set of 'shrooms - or the spindly ones that go over rather easily ! Preparing the Windmill Gossops Green table for the 18th and at the moment it seems more conducive to 4-Pin than 3-Pin.........Mick recorded a PB of 6000 tonight. Be very afraid, Eastbourne !

Now that the league has finished please feel free to comment on ideas for improvements to the rules to make this version better,
one comment received tonight was to change the playing format to ensure players DONT play the same opponent twice on the same night, sounds very sensible to me.
The finish shot off one cushion only is untidy and needs amendment somehow
Post away chaps the more the merrier

PS Well done to the Hospital on winning the league this year, and thanks to all from the Hollingbury for joining us this year and making such an impact finishing a very creditable runner up and leaving the Garden and seven sisters with a few things to tighten up on for next Summer.

The finish shot off one cushion only is untidy and needs amendment somehow Agree in principle, as Sudbury and Norwich had rival versions and only one could be adopted. My view is that mushrooms are designed thus for a purpose: to cover the 50 holes for the last shot. I'd say cover the 50s AND the back five holes and the last ball should be played for the 100 or 200 off any amount of cushions with the two remaining mushrooms in place. to change the playing format to ensure players DONT play the same opponent twice on the same night, sounds very sensible to me. .....but not to me ! It's only 3-a-side, remember and to 'miss out' playing one of the three goes against the grain for me. Playing one drawn opponent twice with each having the break once seems fairest and offers the chance for 'revenge' should you happen to lose the first leg !

Hi Tommo
Thanks for your comments, the idea behind the 1 cushion only rule was to stop the easy finish off the back cush. into the 10 hole, but accept its not the right answer, my first thought about your suggestion is that on an away table a player could easily come a cropper and after a titanic struggle to end up in front could easily fall foul on the black peg, or lose a match winning break, a massive penalty for such hard fought match.
The not playing the same player twice is to ensure that if a weaker player gets drawn against a substantially better player and gets thrashed twice in a night the enjoyment is lessened for BOTH. There should be a consideration of this next time.
Keep em' coming

I'll repeat my suggestion because I don't think you grasped the concept and I'm trying to help here ! Agree in principle, as Sudbury and Norwich had rival versions and only one could be adopted. My view is that mushrooms are designed thus for a purpose: to cover the 50 holes for the last shot. I'd say cover the 50s AND the back five holes and the last ball should be played for the 100 or 200 off any amount of cushions with the two remaining mushrooms in place. So, you can still go for the 200 (and risk the black) to win. You can also go for the 100 (guarded by the red peg) as a safer option. The effect of the red peg is up for debate: I suggest that if a break is in progress and the red is felled then the break (not entire score) is lost. But once you've banked the break you can go for the 100 without risk. Also 'any amount of cushions' allows for a 'double' into the 200, or a shot the 4-Pinners seem to like: up and back from the corner of the table.

plenty of time for discussion next tuesday Tommo, but am trying to avoid the use of a "deliberate miss" shot being played.

Depends which way you look at it - some would say 'safety shot'.
One thing that we seem to agree on is that the last ball scenario has scope for discussion.: I personally like the Norwich way of trying to squeeze the last ball past the red peg and into the 100 hole. Other shots into the low-value holes just seem a)too easy and b)against the spirit of 4-Pin where bravery can be rewarded. Wellingborough for instance double the points after the bar has gone.

it would be wonderful if there was a 4 pin rules conference to bring all the different rules together and were amalgamated into 1 agreed version which could be adopted by the AEBBA might be sorted out before my grandson retires!

I can't prove it now of course, but I'm pretty sure that this has already been done: Sudbury and Norwich got their heads together, all anomalies were resolved, and the official 4-Pin Rules were tagged on to the end of AEBBA's Rules for 3-Pin and displayed on the AEBBA website.

Thanks for the clarification, Sav. That's official enough for me: we take the E.Anglia Open rules as gospel. Anything Colin and I are trying to achieve now can be classed merely as 'tinkering'.

Nice to see some input from someone else, 1 wonder, is the second para an AEBBA statement on the playing rules of The East Anglia Open Rules. I believe that there are no issues about the East Anglia rules per say, they can make/amend rules as they see fit with no comment from me. The tinkering is something that we in Eastbourne believe makes the game better and at the same time, more fun to play. We will continue to come up with such ideas with only the interest of promoting 4 pin, making the rules fairer and modernised to increase its exposure and with only the best intentions. I personally am saddened that whatever suggestions are made are ignored simply to keep the status quo, I would welcome the AEBBA to analyse the current "rules" of the East Anglian open and Force the Officers to make them fairer for participants but I know they wont. So we will do our thing and the others can do their thing with all being happy in their own worlds
