We recently just moved our table from one pub to another, and are struggling to get it to play as well as it did before. We have levelled it out so there is no rolls/drifts, however we cannot get the break to drop in nicely, the white keeps coming inside and will some times even whip out. We have tried making it more downhill, uphill, moving the white spot, the only time we can get the White to drop nicely is if we hit the break really thin but it compromises the red!!! Any ideas?
Thanks

Thanks Stephen Lengthening the distance between the break spots (within AEBBA parameters) and/or making the table more downhill should make the break easier. If it doesn't then there may be a problem with the cushion where the white cue ball is constantly hitting it and making a dent in perished rubber possibly. As an experiment try rubbing the cushion hard several times with your thumb to even out any imperfections and then try the break again. If it makes the break easier then the rubber is probably perished and needs changing. If not you can raise the front right leg slightly to make the cue ball hit the cushion further up the table but this of course compromises the levelling of the table overall and will probably affect the one-up too. Tony Thanks for that Tony, turns out it was the cushion! A good rub down and the balls dropped beautifully.... Lasted till around the forth game then started to go off again, but we will be re clothing soon so will sort cushion out also. Thanks again

We witnessed exactly the same symptom at the Black Dog Crawley around the turn of the century: Micky Wright used to run his hand along the right hand cushion and the break would then be like shelling peas ... By the fourth game though is was cutting inside again. We later took to hot ironing the cush and it then lasted a whole match !

Sorry I didn't answer you PM on this but been hellish busy last few weeks.
Agree with what Tony has said. If it's an ex Bar Billiards Ltd table you will probably find the cushions in a terrible state of decay and with perished cracked rubber as per my photos elsewhere, no chance of getting an even bounce.

No worries Sav, I only put it on here as we had a game last night and I wanted to try and get it playing well before then.
So it would seem a new cushion is required, has anyone got any clues on availability, cost and ways of doing it?

Worries me going to the expense of replacing the rubber and/or rails without knowing for certain what the problem is and whether replacement will cure the problem.
Are the screws holding? the 2" black japanned screws used are pretty useless, being too short. Uneven bounce can occur from loose cushions. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250756213494?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT are perfect but the seller has doubled the price recently and you need 26 for two tables not 25 (without doing the front cushion).
Uphill / downhill can obviously affect it but less likely to cause a change during the match.
Moving the red ball spot up about quarter to half an inch to about seven and a quarter inches (just outside the legal tolerances but I would rather enjoy the game) can help but the spots must line up centrally.
Most likely is perished, cracked and/or stapled rubber and the only way you will know for certain is to prise a few staples off and take a look. Bar Billiards Ltd never replaced cushion rubber if they could avoid it with staples etc.
As Ros will tell you the half inch extruded rubber we have used for years has ceased being sold by the central suppliers Peradon over quality (or very much lack of it) concerns. I have not checked to see if it is available again recently. I am slowly working though my league's tables and replacing rails and rubber.
See barbilliards.proboards.com/thread/17019/cushion-rails for more info.
I can supply three rebated rails for £27, rubber for £23, made up and chamferred to your measurements for £55. I would need to check cloth supplies to see if I can cover them in isolation as I won't split cloth sets.
As you may be aware I am ceasing non profit making buying in bulk after this stock has gone as I will not be maintaining the AEBBA tables in future.
Chris.
