Here’s a quick summary of the main points, IanG or Stu may wish to elaborate afterwards.......... A disappointing turnout, but made for an intimate and sometimes jocular meeting, conducted to a background of C & W music and line-dancing from the main hall outside. Stuart Carruthers had had a very good first year as Competitions Secretary: his Team Cup format around 12 teams in groups of 3 had had nothing but positive feedback. The Masters event had also been well received by most. Also mentioned in dispatches: Finals Night had been a success in every way possible with an exceptional standard of play; certain of our League members had also excelled at National level. League Secretary had one matter only for concern: an unexpected increase in trophy and engraving costs, which while falling short of changing supplier he hoped to monitor closely in the future. The accounts were adopted, with working capital slightly down due largely to the trophy costs - but with four table sponsors coming to the rescue the Treasurer was recommending no increase in fees. The Committee were returned with the same personnel, except for Jo Hopkins standing down. A further member can be co-opted on later should the case arise. Stu Carruthers was confirmed as Interleague Captain, with the committee taking over responsibility for recruiting the Ladies team following the resignation of Lorraine. Two rule amendments were passed, relating to a) order of play in competitions, and b) requirements regarding a fixed night.

As Tommo Said a disappointing turn out with just 4 of the 12 teams represented. The club was very busy so we took up in the committee room. My thanks to those that attended in addition to what has already been said reports were given by the Chairman, Treasurer League/Fixtures Secretary & Competition Secretary.
2 rule change proposals were submitted by Stuart Carruthers.
Rule Change Proposal from Stuart Carruthers. Rule 26. Stuart has proposed the following change to Rule 26 ( based on Sussex Rule 36 ) 26. Existing wording. All cup games are open to unlimited entries; opening rounds will be played on a set night determined by the competition secretary usually a Monday, except the Team Cup. The toss of a coin will decide the first choice of break to be taken in individual/double competitions. In Men’s Ladies & Mixed doubles the player taking the first break in the first & second leg may not take the break in the deciding leg. Complete failure by either party to make contact will result in forfeiture of the match.
26. New wording. All individual and doubles competitions will be open to unlimited entries with matches to be played on a set night determined by the Competition Secretary, usually a Monday. • Competition matches will be the best of three games. The player/pair who wins the toss shall have the choice of break in either the first or second game. In the event of a third game both players/pairs will have the break and will toss again for the choice of first or second break. • In Doubles matches the player who takes the first shot for their pair in the first game shall take the last shot for their pair in the second game, meaning that the order of play shall be A-B-C-D in game 1 and D-C-B-A in game 2. In the event of a 3rd game the players who did not take the break for their pair in the first two games shall take the breaks. • In Mixed Doubles matches the Ladies will take the first shots for their pairs in the first 2 games. In the event of a 3rd game, either partner may take the break.
Also.
Rule Change Proposal from Stuart Carruthers. Rule 26a. Stuart has proposed the following addition to Rule 26 ( based on Sussex Rules 34 39 & 41 )
26a. If a player/pair is unable to play on the set night for the competition they must contact their opponent as soon as possible and re-arrange. All matches should be played on the table drawn as close to the original date as possible, and before the scheduled date for the next round, with the Competition Secretary and venue informed of the change of date. If no agreement can be reached the facts should be reported to the Competition Secretary for a decision. Any player/pair who fails to turn up within 30 minutes of the start time of a competition match having not informed either their opponent or the Competition Secretary beforehand will be eliminated from the competition, unless exceptional circumstances prevailed.
Both of these were carried and will be circulated in the new rules next season.
