I have heard that Roy Wells passed away last night and post here as Roy was well known in several Sussex Leagues and indeed for his time on the Sussex Committee.
He gave tireless effort and commitment to Bar Billiards throughout the years I knew him, (Crawley, Horsham & Mid-Sussex I know) and, typically, refused to give up such commitment right to the end, with Mid-Sussex, and earned my respect and friendship.
RIP Roy

Roy was another victim of that dreaded 'big C'. He was a fighter and had struggled on for a year. But it's still a big shock for us all when the inevitable happens.
As Graham says, Roy loved his bar billiards and had put in tireless effort as an administrator for three leagues over the years. He will be remembered long into the future.
Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
RIP Roy

news indeed, as Tommo and Sparky have both said Roy did so much for Bar Billiards over a long period of time for several leagues and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. RIP Roy

What sad news.
We will miss Roy greatly - as a friend and team mate in Mid Sussex, Horsham and Mid Sussex Interleague and as my former mixed doubles partner in Horsham.
Roy did so much for the game and was still "in harness" for Mid Sussex league until just a few weeks ago.
Our sympathies go to his family.

When I think of Mid Sussex League I always think of Roy, he fought that disease just like he fought on the bar billiard table, it was just one game he couldn't win.
RIP Roy, you'll be missed but never forgotten

As all have said Roy was a prominent figure in the Leagues and did so much holding key positions during the years, he wanted to remain involved in Mid Sussex right to the end even though he had many health issues he stood for election at last years AGM. Sadly he didn't get to carry on, he always championed the normal player and fought for what was right and fair.
Our thoughts go out to all his Family at this time.
RIP Roy you will be a hard act to follow.
Ian.

I have been informed that Roy's Funeral will take place on Thursday 5th November at 2.15 at Crawley Crematorium followed by a wake at The Windmill Gossops Green.
His Daughter has said that they would like Bar Billiards to be played and they would love as many of his fellow Bar Billiards Players as possible to come.

Thanks Ian,
To add, then, that the table will be put on freeplay for the duration.

What a shame that so many of Roy's friends and family will be in Jersey at the time of the funeral. I'm really upset that I won't be able to go.

I worked alongside Roy on the Sussex Exec. He was a smashing bloke and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. My condolences to family members at this sad time. I am away in Derbyshire at the time of the funeral but will raise a glass to Roy on the 5th.

Well, the funeral/celebration of Roy's life took place today and a tasteful service with some nice touches was followed by the anticipated wake, with friends and family gathering at the Windmill. It was good to see quite a few make it over from Mid Sussex.
A sumptuous buffet was followed with a series of knockabout b-b games which ended fittingly with a challenge between daughters Justine and Tudor for the remaining spectators, with Tudor running out a last-ball winner against Canada's number one !
